cabin air filter

I've found that the mildew smell from the A/C is noticably bad when I've parked the GX overnight with the air recirculation switched on. If I switch it to "fresh" before shutting off ignition (give it a couple of seconds to switch over), then shut down, the smell is pretty much non-existant when restarting later.
My theory is that when switched to "fresh" moisture on the evaporator dries off better since there is a pathway to outside air. If the moisture sits on the evaporator, that's when stuff starts to grow on it and cause smells. Perhaps a dirty filter will also restrict airflow even when parked in "fresh" mode, so a new filter may help as well.
