RPM's drop when AC is on and the clunk
I'm trying to see what I'm experiencing is call the clunk. If i have AC running and the idle speed bump-up and drop at the redlight then the clunk comes right when the rpm drop. is this mean i have clunk like everyone is talking about? thanks

I experienced the clunk very seldom - maybe I'm lucky, but my comment is about the AC bumping the idle up. It seems too aggressive and will cause the GX to lerch if you are light on the brakes at a stop. I had a 88 Honda that did the same thing and thought that nightmare died with it. Does anyone know if the dealer can calm down the RPM increase when the AC compressor engages?

I have this same problem. The rpm jumps up every 20 seconds at a stop. It lasts for about 5 seconds. The dealer says this is normal, but I can't believe that it is. Anyone else have a similar problem?

It is normal for the A/C to cycle on and off like that. Long story why... bottom line is that's how they control the temperature of the system to prevent the evaporator from freezing. Years ago there was a valve for that; now it's standard to cycle the compressor on and off.
And it's pretty noticable on the V8 engine, as you all have mentioned.
This is one of the theories behind the "clunk", although people have posted that it also clunks without the A/C.

If you have the "clunk", you will feel it with the A/C off. It's a condition not associated with the A/C cycling on and off.
