My 05 GX just now has 5000 and went back to the dealer for oil change and a vibratiing steering wheel. This is a very harsh vibration like holding a virbrator. It has nothing to do with tires and is tied to motor rpm's. Starts about 1200 and is really noticeable at 1500 rpm's. It is so harsh it makes your hands feel like they are going to sleep. It doesn't do it out of gear. With it in gear and foot on the brake it is easy to duplicate by just bringing the rpm into the range. Driving, it can be anything from 20 to 50 as long as the rpm is in that range.
Dealer says it is normal for GX. It may be normal for the GX but I can tell you none of my other non Lexus vehicles do this. It really feels like they failed to dampen the steering box.
I hate to dump the GX so quickly and take a big hit but I will not live with it the way it is.

What you describe is not normal for the GX. It looks like you have done an admirable job narrowing down the problem to specific rpms. Did you have the problem when you first got the vehicle?
I hate the "normal for the GX" response. If everything I have heard people on here say they were told is "normal" they would never have sold two of these vehicles.

I have been talking about this in lot of threads. Apparently what u need to do is ask your dealer to perform the TSB ST3001 or something. Its Titled as Steering Vibration/Drone
its a 1800 TSB and from my experience dealerships don't like doing them, they would always blame other things such as tires or in most cases would not even admit to a problem. You gotta go back to the dealership.. tell them few of ur frens on Clublexus had the same issue and they got this tsb done and things r normal now. USUALLY there reply is.. that we can't go by other people and we have our own procedure to follow.. so then u tell them that there's a specific TSB related to my problem and you gotta follow it ... thats the reason its there, thats the procedure.
And trust me if they do that TSB... u wouldn't have that problem anymore...

This actually was a common issue with not only the GX470s but the Toyota 4Runner V8 4WD models as well. If this is the same tsb then it is concerning the front differential harmonics. Generally speaking, the colder the temperature the worse the vibration. I just got rid of a 2006 4Runner that had it and picked up an 05 GX that was not demonstrating the issue. It's hit or miss. Good luck with the fix!!
