Acceleration Delay
you guys have to excuse me but this is a newbie question. hopefully and I know for sure someone knows the answer to this. i've never owned a lexus before so I have nothing to compare it to.
when i drive my BMW X5 and I step on the gas pedal, that thing pulls even with a tap of my foot. but when i drive the lexus gx, i have to really press on the gas before it goes. now, is it the fuel filter clogged? spark plugs needs to be replaced? or is it just like that?
please advice! bought the car CPO, 26,000+ miles and its only 28,000+ now. so i haven't even taken it in for a 30,000 maintenance.
any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've noticed that with most Lexus vehicles, the transmissions and their shifting points are set really conservatively. Meaning that they seem to stay in lower rpm gears, and not stay in high rpms for very long. For obvious reasons this save gas, prevents wear, and makes the car feel very smooth.
I don't think the cause of your acceleration problems has to do with the engine, but probably the gear you are in when accelerating. I sometimes keep my GX in (4) when im driving in town to prevent it from going into 5th gear. That way it accelerates much quicker.
Now if your GX is slow in all gears, then maybe it is a engine problem.

Shift to (4) when passing
Similar to what I do. When passing, I tap the gear shift to (4) instead of accelerating. I do then accelerate when in (4) but it is a lot smoother and more controllable. If you've never done it that way, try it, you'll like it.

Disconnecting the battery will reset the ECU. That will reset all the shift point of the transmission that the ECU learn from your driving style. If you usually drive slow, the ECU will hold the gear you are in longer when you try to accelerate.
As far as the touchy gas pedal on the X5, alot of Hondas are like that too, they are program for performance. All these cars or SUVs have the drive by wire system, so the gas pedal is no longer linear, they can program it to have more gain on the top end or the bottom end. One thing I do notice about the GX, when the clutch fan is on, it does take away from alot of the acceleration.

I believe that the accelorator is a fly by wire type meaning that the position of the pedal is linked to the ECU. If your driving habits are normally non-lead footed, it may take more pedal to get moving.

It all comes down to perfernce, BMW, VW and even the RAV4 V6 have very touchy gas pedals, that is great if thats what you want. I perfer a nice smooth ride and a linear pedal.

thanks cab2u...yes, it definitely is a big difference driving both. i usually use the X5 on a daily basis for work but use the GX on the weekend for family usage. Everytime I switch vehicles, it takes a while getting used to the whole set up...
Each one is unique and has and serves its purpose...i do love the smoothness of the Lexus and the quickness of the X5....

If you really want performance, as someone suggested, keep the transmission in a lower gear.
Though it increases wear and decreases economy, if you keep the RPMs between 3500 and 5000, tapping lightly on the gas pedal makes the truck lunge forward with almost the explosiveness of my Z06. For such a huge truck, that sudden surge of power is exciting.

oh no...with my GX...i cruise with that suv...but with my x5, now that's a different story. i definitely, baby my gx and no way i will force that smooth thing
