Well, I dunno, I mean the manual also often says to use a particular style OEM air filter for the engine but they can't void your engine warranty just because you use a K&N air filter unless they can first show that's what caused the problem.

Does the manual say use Lexus oil filter only? I know that anytime you have problem with the engine, the first thing they go after is your oil change records. Thats why I always keep those records on hand.

Lets say you use a Mobil 1 filter and change it yourself. The problem you could have if the filter failed is that Toyota will say its the filter and Mobil will say you installed it wrong. If you have Toyota/Lexus do your Oil/filter change and you have a failure its on them and covered under warranty. After the warranty is up then do it yourself makes more sense. JMHO

K&N oil filters are 100% identical to Mobil 1 filters - if both are available for your car in the same size just go with whatever one is cheaper, though they're both typically pretty expensive.
