Default Grinding/Vibration from Back Brakes

I just wanted to see if anyone else is having an issue with the rear brakes sounding like the anti-locks were going off when braking going down hill. I thought this was happening because it was time to change the brakes but it still happens even after I have replaced all the brake pads. It doesn't happen all the time and I am wondering if there is isues either with my brakes or Axel. Any thoughts?

How are your e-brake shoes? The are in the drum. You need to remove the wheel, then the brake caliper mounts (2 bolts), metal clip between the brake hose hard and soft line, and the caliper comes off (rest it on or hang it from something w/ string). The rotor should pull off to reveal the e-brake shoes and inside of the drum. The min thickness is 1mm, new is 4mm. You should replace if 2mm or less. The grating sound could be shoes worn all the way down or a wear indicator (warning). I know the normal brake pads have these wear warning indicators, not sure about the e-brake shoes.

Jim,
there are no drums on the GX, they are discs.

As far as the problem goes, i think Jim is on the right track...it's probably the rear pads.

Actually Purp, I hate to correct the expert here...but Jim is right. He is not talking about the rear brakes, but the rear emergency brakes. These are drums that are litterally inside the rear rotors. If you look at the attachent below you can see the pads for the drum on the lower left.

I also know that he is right because I replaced all of my pads and rotors a couple of months ago and had to pull the rear rotors off of the drum pads.
