Installed the SLX this weekend into the wifes 2005 GX470. time from start to finish was about 2 hours. i actually removed the center console from around the e-brake, shifter, and trans case shifter, and placed the xm direct unit underneath next to the trans shifter, put the vaistech unit behind the audio system and ashtray. snug fit for both, but no rattles. the integration into the nav system is simply amazing and the audio output superb. i highly recommend this system to anyone interested.

I have 2 '04 GX470s with NAV/ML. I've been waiting for Vaistech to come out with the SLXI so I can have both my XM and iPod. Do you guys know if the '04 supports the CD-Text so I can get the track info on the NAV screen?

Yup, was told mid April when I asked in January. The perpetual delays (this has been going on for about a year, hasn't it?) have me looking for another option at this point.

Wow, that would have been really helpful information to get when I emailed VaisTech last fall about it. I specified that I had 2 '04 GX's. I guess I'll move on to another option.

I think the lexus OEM XM plus the Vais ipod adapter (SLI) is a pretty good combo -- assuming their is OEM XM, which i realize as i type there may not be for your model.

1 - i loosely followed the directions found in another thread (with pics) that detail the dash trim removal. however, i removed accidentally the entire center console surround containing the area around the gear shifters, parking brake, etc. it turned out to be a good thing.
2 - removed the ashtray and then the nav system.
3 - placement of the two boxes was the trickiest for me. i ended up putting the xm box under the center console, next to the transfer case shifter. its wedged in tight because if its not you cant get the console back in without the "DAC" button popping up when you reinstall the console. i dont mind the tight fit cause it wont rattle, either.
4 - put the vaistech box behind the ashtray, there is a dash bracket there that it will snug up behind.
5 - plugged everything up by following the vaistech directions exactly and tested before putting it all back together.
total time for this install was about 1.5 hours. the thing that took the longest believe it or not was the removal of the initial trim pieces. there were tough to remove at first cause the clips are so snug and i was extremely careful not to damage them. after that, fairly easy.

Well, now that I found out I can't do the SLXI with my '04s, I'm trying to decide if I want to go with the SLI or the SLX. I'm thinking the SLX would be nicer to use the steering controls to change radio stations but the SLI would be nicer to charge the iPod. Anybody got any suggestions?

The SLX instructions should show the back of the HU and what plugs into what.
I installed the SL2i-UP myself and it was very simple.
