I just bought my wife a 2004 GX470 from an estate sale. The lady who owned the car was original owner and always parked in the garage. When I bought the car it had cracks going across passenger dash at airbag and at driver's side instrument cluster. I called the Lexus dealer and they wanted $1800 for a dash pad plus labor to replace. I wasn't about to pay that much money so I contacted a dash repair company and the guy did the repair for $275 and he told me that the majority of cars he is repairing in the Dallas area are Lexus models and he considers it to be a manufacturer's defect. If you do not have cracks in your dash he suggests that you use Meguair's Mirror Glaze Professional Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner on the dash to clean and protect it from cracking. The repair is acceptable but you can still see a vein going across the dash where the cracks were. Other than that my wife loves the car.

Man this thread keeps me up at night. Between this and a few other known, potentially expensive issues on the GX I really had to fight with myself to end up with my GX in the end as it was what I really wanted. But I'm still scared I'm going to get hit with this

I could be way off here, but I could swear when I first started reading this thread early last year I had read at least a couple instances where a CPO warranty didnt cover this repair. Again, my memory could be off here, but I remember thinking that was really a shame and it kept me away from GX's for a long time.

So disgusting. Clearly a manufacturing defect, and they take no responsibility for it, not even under warranty or CPO. Lexus is the last company I would imagine such behavior from but I too will likely never buy one again if this happened to me. Its just too much of a slap in the face after all of the $$ we spend being loyal to the brand.

Agreed, but let's not drive the bus over them too many times - they still make the best, most mechanically sound vehicle on the road. And for those of us that buy used, you can get a good price too.

well for an suv this big with this many parts - this is a very good car or truck
mercedes infiniti bmw - can have far worse issues and more of a headache than a gx470 as from experience and reading on other forums as i have owned these other brands before - so far lexus has to be the best from what i know as of now... oh and counting my ex-gf's audi? - lexus is the standard in quality control and reliability

I don't know if this would work for everyone, but it worked for me today. I took my GX in for a wheel bearing going out and for Lexus Dealer to look at the dash & give me options. Drivers front wheel bearing def needed replacing but they recommended both get changed & I agreed. Only savings being 2.9hrs for 1 side or 4.1 hrs for both sides labor. The quote for the dash was $1100 & change for dash + 5 hrs labor install. I said I didn't mind paying the labor but not the dash cost since this is a known problem and if they couldn't work with me on the cost of the dash, I would call corporate & ask them to. Service guy went to the manager & came back covering 100% cost of the dash if I paid install cost. I said "YES!". Probably helped that I was getting other work done at the time. Much less hassle than I was expecting. Just be nice and ask. You might be suprised as I was......

2004 rx330 dash cracks
I have read this thread for 2 hrs because i am having cracking problems with my 2004 RX330 dash. I just came from LEXUS OF ORLANDO, Winter Park location and let me tell you they are well aware of the PROBLEM. They have a "TEST" / list of QUALIFYING questions to ask you to see if they are going to help with the repair.
1. Are you the original owner? ..and why does it matter when the car is 8 yrs old and has 59,000 miles on it. The dash should not crack. My Dad was the original owner. STRIKE 1 on me
2. Do I have ALL maintenance performed by a LEXUS dealer? ...why should this matter. NO, I do not want to pay $45.00 for oil changes.
3. D i OWN 2 or more Lexus vehicles?..why should this matter? Quick answer...I am GLAD i do not OWN 2 2004 RX330's...I would have to pay for 2 X $1500 dash replacements.
I have also owned a 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY til recently and did not have dash problems with it. If they do not help with the replacement LEXUS / TOYOTA will fall next to HP on my family DO NOT BUY list.
I will have update next week...Wish me luck!!
