"I just joined the forum to let you guys know that toyota is changing the cracked dashboards for good will. I just had mine chaned free of cost and i have a gray toyota 4runner 2003 limited 4wd 142k miles. I went for the pedal recall and they took pictures of the dash and i got the call to have it replaced free of charge two weeks later. I hope you guys have the same luck as me."

This is promising, although it's just one report at this point, but it's the first time I have read where Toyota agreed to cover the entire cost. There have certainly been reports where they paid for the part but made the customer pay for the labor.

This thread and the 4-Runner thread on the subject should be brought to any dealer's attention when speaking with them about covering the replacement. I was thinking of printing out all of the pages and brining it with me.

I'm bringing my GX in for the rear brakes tomorrow morning. Appointment is set. I'll ask the SA about it. I've used the same SA for years so he will give me the scoop.

Spoke to the Toyota SA this morning. Unfortunately he was not aware of a formal policy from Toyota yet. All he could tell me is that they are giving assistance on a case by case basis. I'm going to follow up with this on the T4R site.

Default 2004 RX330 Dashboard Cracks

I started with my local dealer (Lexus of Tampa Bay) trying to get my dashboard cracks fixed ... see pictures. This has been an ongoing problem for the last several years. It has gotten worse. The dealership called me back after I took the vehicle in for inspection and said that they couldn't offer any help. They could replace the dashboard for about $2k, but Lexus wouldn't cover any of the cost. I then contacted Lexus Customer Service (a misnomer!) ... they called back and offered me 25% towards a new dashboard. I didn't want to be ungrateful, but that just didn't sit well with me when this is clearly a manufacturing defect. I e-mailed Lexus hoping to get a different result, but they came back with an e-mail saying that my complaint has received attention from "the highest levels of Lexus Customer Service" ... what a crock! They were standing by their position of only offering 25% towards the repair. I am fuming about this. I basically talked my entire family into purchasing a Lexus vehicle and now I may never buy another one again!

Currently looking into a vinyl/leather repair company to quote a fix (if possible). Wish me luck!

DAMN that looks awful! If that was my Lexus I'd trade that in for another vehicle, there's NO way I could live with that on a daily basis. Such a shame that many Lexus owners have the exact same dash cracking problems but the best Lexus can do is offer 25% off.

I hope your local vinyl / leather shop is able to repair it.

Lexus dealer called Lexus and honored $1800. I had the dealer repaired it. Out of pocket for me about $900.

But the repair cost is $2300 now which means $1150 out-of-pocket expense for me.

JTbeth, that's about how my cracks looks now. You're not alone. There's not one piece of my dash unaffected.

Funny, out of habit, I still put up my sunscreen when I park in an uncovered area. I annoyingly laugh at myself for doing so. It's so far gone what's the damn sense for my doing this?

I envy those who received such good service from the get go. At one point I was my service advisor's best customer, buying needless things, stupidly paying for $45 oil changes, etc. It's profoundly disappointing how Lexus (and recently my dealership) has played with me. This is not a woe be me post. The fact is I had to negotiate with Lexus for 2 years back and forth on the amount they were willing to pay when I just pulled the plug on the subject.

In retrospect I think the most disgusting part of this experience with Lexus is that they kept sending me ridiculous counter offers to fix the dash, as if I was bidding on a work of art or negotiating a real estate deal.

The last time I saw my Lexus service advisor for a discounted oil change, I brought up the dash problem again and he said in so many words, "I doubt you'll get anywhere with that request . Where have you been the last 20,000 miles because it hasn't been here".

Thanks for letting me vent on this subject. I am not in the position I one was to buy a new Lexus or pay inflated maintenance any more. I want them to stand behind the car's interior. I'm not asking for anything mechanical. It's a !@#$%^&*( dashboard.

Default Not just cracked...

I am on my fourth Lexus and this has not happened to any of them except the one I am currently in. By the sounds of it, it is a Lexus issue. My dash is not only covered in cracks it is falling off in little chunks! I am really hacked off about this. This is not why I buy a Lexus. I am taking pictures and sending it to the company. I don't believe I should have to replace or repair it...this is obviously a defect that comes with the 330.

I am in Tallahassee with the same issue for my wife's RX 330. Do you have the Lexus Corp representative and what was your resolution with them? Thank you.

Obviously Toyota/Lexus tried a new "formula" for dash materials that didn't work out too well. Our '08 hasn't cracked--knock on wood.

One of those 4Runner posters not only has a cracked dash, he also has the infamous "clunk" that Lexus fixed on the GXs by replacing the drive shafts if still under warranty. Not so with Toyota--they won't/don't replace the drive shafts. Too bad for him.

So after 17 pages i've learned
1) no suggestion of product to use - damp cloth may be best
2) no class action law suit is on the horizon

I found a small but obvious crack going across the top of my gauge cluster. The truck is a 2003 with 120k miles and is in fantastic condition. I'm terrified of any other cracks forming.

Didn't see contact info for corporate over the past 17 pages so i'll attach it below incase anyone needs it. I have worked in the legal field for several years and will pursue legal action at any cost to right the wrong to consumers like us. Let me see what comes from my initial contact with Lexus Corporate.
