Default Need assistance with installation of radio

I am planning to install a VHF radio with magnetic mount antenna in my 2004 GX470. I plan to install the radio in the center console. A couple of questions:
1. Can I drill through the base of the small, square storage box (to the rear of the cupholders) and route the antenna and power wires under the center console?

2. Where is the best place to tap into 12v DC power (positive and negative) for the radio?

I have very limited knowledge of the car's electrical system so any suggestions with very basic information would be most appreciated. Thanks

I would try routing the antenna line along the door sill, you can pop off the plastic covers and route it under the carpet with the other wires to the back of the vehicle. As far as the tap for 12v goes, how much current does your radio pull?

if it is 10 or 15 amps you can tap the fuse block (on the supply side of the fuse), radio shack sells fuse taps if you need one.

If you need more current I would run a power line directly to the battery thru the fire wall, sometimes you can push the wires thru existing grommets. Don't forget to install a fuse on the + side of your line close to the battery.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do plan to route the power wiring and antenna cable under the plastic covers, but then I need to get it into the box in the center console. Do you know if I can drill through the base of that console?

The radio draws only about 10 amps (that is the fuse rating in the harness attached to the radio. Is the fuse box in the cab or do I need to run the fuse tap into the engine compartment?

not sure of where to drill a hole, there is a fuse box below the mirrow adjuster switch, should have plenty of power there.
