Hey all, today i was rotating the tires on my mom's lexus gx470 (2004) and we had her all done an it was my friends job to tighten the lugs on the right rear tire. well he tightened one of them and then we took it for a spin.... felt the weird feeling and knew instantly what happened...
well atleast the tire didnt come off but i blame myself for not checking it. Well we stopped and jacked it up, tightened the lugs but the on of them got cross threaded big time. i cranked on it and snap! broke the thread off
still have 5 lugs on so its ok for now but what can i do?
please help!!
is it as simple as going to autozone and picking up new studs and punching out the old ones? has anyone done this on their lexus?

Ok I repaired it myself. took about 1:30minutes and a 8$ lug and stud from napa.
process was
1. remove tire
2. remove 2 bolts from back of caliper
3. hang caliper up out of the way, be careful not to pinch brakeline
4. remove 2 bolts holding the other peice of the caliper on the back of the rotor plate.
5. slide rotor off the hub.
6. turn key on, put in neutral, DO NOT PRESS ON BRAKE, and rotate the hub so that the broken stud is at the 6o'clock postion( at the very bottom).
after you put it back in park you wont be able to shift out of park until you step on the brake which you dont want to do while its off.
7. use a punch and sledge hammer to knock old bolt out.
8. get a kid or someone with smaller hands to insert the new stud into the back of the hub.(may have to use a screwdriver to pry emergency brake back a little).
8. use two box end wrenches and put space between the hub and your lug.
10. tighten beyond belief, stop everynow and then and put some lub on the threads.
11. it wont be perfectly level with the rest but will work just fine.
here are some pics. first is the broken stud and the second the new stud is at the bottom.

no just 3 in 1 oil to keep the heat down while i was cranking on the bolt. just so i didnt f-up the threads. i did a write up with a little more detail
