I noted the gas door was slightly bent and my wife has reported that her car was on empty after filling up two days ago with almost no miles. Is there a locking gas cap that won't set off our check engine lights?

Stealing gas, it reminds of my country Russia. When gas was in limited quantities people used to steal gas.

Stealing Gas, I remember to one of my trips to India- Calcutta, where I had gone for an Air Accident investigation, on my way back to my hotel, there was this freight train carrying Flammable Fuel was been robbed while it was stationary ( Signal ) with around few hundreds people siphoning with rubber hoses, into Gas containers. The Engine Driver was just hooting away to glory. *bit off topic*

Phillips, sorry to hear about the incident. Maybe if you google or customise one. I have heard that some model of Yamaha Cruiser fuel tank which has got the lock mechanism can be swapped ( inner mechanism ).

Bent gas door, it doesnt sound very good. Can you still open gas door from inside?

The door can get bent pretty easlily. Also easy to bent back into place.

Make sure that the gas was actually stolen from the car. It is quite common for people to wait for you to go inside a gas station (to pee, or buy something) then take your hose out, wrap it around the other side of the pump and fill up their car. Then put it back in your car, with the flow stopped. You see $50 bucks on the pump and think your car is full...then drive off. If your not paying attention, you will not even notice your tank is still empty.

typically a transaction like that doesnt take minutes, usually seconds. and filling up $50 worth of gas takes a while.

U wont believe it.. When I was working at dealer, Im so shock to see underneat the gas tank of LS430 has a hole.. Dumb robber use driller to drill the hole and get some gas.. I cant imagine myself the driller could get spark and cause gas explode.. Damn he got some *****..

Sad but common. Out fleet vehicles always got robbed of gas. They would just cut the fuel line underneath.
