Default windshield wipers randomly stop working

My 03 GX470 has an issue where the windshield wipers will randomly stop working. It doesn't matter what setting they are on, auto, low, high, they work fine for a few minutes, then just stop mid stroke. They sometimes start back again on their own after a minute or so, but usually, I have to turn the switch to other settings a few times, to get it going again. Inevitably though, the wipers only work for a few minutes more, before stopping again. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?
Thanks!

Sounds like a short in the system. Get it fixed ASAP as it can be dangerous (obviously).

Maybe a loose connection on connector or relay....

i had the same problem and found it was the Rain Sensor on the Windscreen was bit detached. And Had it fixed by this tape, Maybe you try it and replace the same, just cost $2/- from the dealer.

Thanks for your replies. I'm going to reapply the rain sensor (the random behavior of the wipers do make me suspicious of the sensor) and then also check out the connections per your suggestions

When it stops play with the switch. Turn it off, on, auto what ever it is and see if it goes on and off. That might be an indication of the swipe itself. Of course i would check or replace the cheapest things first relays etc.... As for the rain sensor that is for AUTO only not anything else. I had my windshield replaced and the auto never worked well. Found out i didnt have the double tape what ever it's called on the windshield between the auto sensor. The picture that's in this thread for two dollars is the item im talking about. The windshield company just replaced it when they changed the window for free and it worked out at least from what my wifes states!!
