The Lexus Dealership is quoting $800.
Local and very reputable shop has quoted $470. all including tax.
Really?? Why must they make us be the a$$holes?

I haven't changed one in many years, but it wasn't hard, just time consuming removing all the brake hardware & then removing the hub and punching out the bearing races. Grease everything & reassemble. Back in the day, a set of bearings for one hub (2 required) cost less than $20. Took maybe 1.5-2 hours to do the job.
IMHO, $800 or even $740 sounds like hundreds too much. Yikes!

I guess that is the price one pays for having fancy fish tanks, rock walls, espresso machines and massage chairs in a dealership. I don't get it though -- if they were a little more reasonable I would think they could garner more of the work that goes to independent garages. I do not understand the car dealer business so it's just my ignorant view, but $350 bucks just seems like too much of a gap/profit taking, etc. (Especially in today's we-all-know-the-cost society)

Some owners are well off and dont care about shopping around to save money and / or dont have the time to shop around so they bite the bullet and take it to their manufacturer. Youll always pay a premium when getting work done at a dealer, its 2012 everyone should know that by now.

For every person they loose on a repair theres probably 3 more lined up to drop their vehicle off to get serviced.

That seems very high. Had a local do one on my wife’s pilot for $200.
I found an ex Toyota master mechanic who opened his own shop. The local Toyota specialty shop wanted $650 to replace a radiator, 950 for timing belt and water pump. The solo guy let me buy my own parts. I was OTD for $1100 with timing belt, water pump, seals, alternator, radiator, hoses, thermostat, coolant, plugs and a serpentine belt. Definitely pays to shop around!
