Should Lexus offer a GX470 off-road camp?
I think it would be a great idea. Similar to the one Land Rover offeres with the purchase of their new trucks. A day of off-roading in your new truck on a special track. Anyone?

It'd be cool but
I think the market they target with the GX is not the off-road type, they are really pushing it more as an LUV (luxury utility vehicle) rather than an SUV. I wouldn't mind doing a ride & drive though...using their cars on an off-road track...although it is usually very subdued it is fun to see what the truck can do.

I own both the GX and a Montero (another great off-roader) and the GX has gone everywhere my Montero has gone (except for places that need a higher graound clearance).
Remember, the GX has the same mechanics as the 4Runner. Lexus just markets it as, "If you are going off-roading, why not do it in 1st class accomodations". The GX is awesome off-road. I'll post some pics of our desert trek when I have a chance. Heck, 4-wheeler of the Year has to mean something.
Anyone up for setting a GX Off-roaders club, similar to the RangeRover folks? I see the Rovers in the desert here in Borrego Springs (Souther Calif) often. Which leads me to my second question, how many of you out there are actually going to see any dirt in your GX?

Lexus Test Driver
Yes but I agree with Johnny Mo. The only reason any company would do some sort of camp or event is for marketing and publicity. When marketing know what your target market is. Lexus marketing knows a lot about their customers. It is their job to do so. The active profile of a person who drives a 4runner and a GX470 is different.
I won't pretend to fully understand what these demographics are, but you can be certain more people who drive a 4runner would be more willing to take part in an event like this then GX drivers with rear DVD systems and 3rd seats :-)

me too
Sign me up. I would do more off-road if I felt more confident about how to do it without destroying my truck!
What I really need is an Urban version - you know like driving over median strips when stuck in traffic, etc!

You just need a dealer with an off-road course. Our Lexus/Mercedes dealer built one.

Off Roading
Don't think I would ever intentionally take my GX off roading! I am kind of picky with my vehicles, besides I love the the lighted side boards (I guess that's what they are called) and I'm not sure they wouldn't be torn off (or at least scratched up) if you were to really get into some rough riding. It is nice to know it will perform off road, in case the need arises, otherwise, I want my baby spic and span!
