My Method double standards sit flush with the fender, lucked out when I ordered them. I think their backspacing is standard, 0 offset, 4.75 backspacing.
[QUOTE=KingPhilip;9134280]I think he's asking what size spacer to use for the stock wheels to sit flush to the fender? If not, then I'm asking? LOL[/QUOTE
With the stock wheels I used a 1.25" spacer and my wheels are just a little beyond the fenders.
stock wheel is a 17x7 with like a 5" backspacing (25mm offset), so get a measuring tape and see.
it also matters what width the rim is and what size tire unless you mean flushing the rim with the fender...
like my 4.5" backspace tundra wheels (.5" or 10mm further out than stock so its a 15mm offset) that are the same width as stock at 7" width. So with 285mm tires that stick out 10mm more than stock 265mm (sticks 10mm further out on each side) , it has the tire sitting flush with the fender at a total of 20mm further out than stock which is about .8". I think 1.25" spacers is too much to space it out for look, let alone safety debates regarding spacers since you only really need an inch total from the wheels and tires.
I wouldn't go any higher than a 4.5" backspace if you are looking into wider tires than stock due to the upper a-arm clearance, and anything lower than that which sticks out further will be an aftermarket wheel which you can get as low as a 4" backspace on if desired. if you are keeping the tires the same size then you want a lower offset or backspace to flush it up.
that would be 1.0" further out than stock. .5" wider wheel from the center point with .5" less backspace = 1.0" total
so look at the picture with the 1.25" spacers above on the stock wheels which stick past the fenders some and then imagine a quarter inch less.
It would be close and possibly sit a little past the fender still with stock size tires, but most people moving to a 8" rim would be putting on wider tires like 285 70 17 which would place the tire a 1/4 past the pic above with the spacers on the stock wheels.
another good option is the stock tundra wheels or fj cruiser wheels, both are 7" wide like the factory GX wheels but are 15mm offset or 4.5" backspace which pushes things out .5" from stock and looks nice. you can run a 265 70 17 on these and not have much issues and still be able to run a good all terrain tire.
Okay! So I need more help. I am going to order the MB TKO's from discount tire. However, I have 2 recommendations one from corporate discount tire, and one from local discount tire.
Corporate DT tells me the 17" TKO -6mm offset will be flush with fender
Local DT tells me the 17" TKO +25mm offset will be flush with fender.
Truly confused, can anyone help?
I basically want a wider stance, but not out of fender too much, if at all.
you really didn't give enough info but I looked it up and those are 17x8.5" rims.
17" TKO +25mm offset the tire will sit in the exact same place as your stock wheels if you use the same size tires.
even though the rim is wider, the offset is the same so while the backspace has increased, the tire sits in the same spot so in short, No this would not flush you up at all only allow you to run wider tires which if wide enough might get you close.
The "Backspace" on this rim is 5.7" (I will come back to this at the end)
17" TKO -6mm offset will stick out 31mm further with the same tire. this is going to take you a hair past the fender I am flush sitting out 25mm more than stock, so this is not ideal either cause likely you may run a bigger tire which will add even more width. If you are going to run a stock size tire this would not be that bad though it would be like having those 1.25" spacers on the stock wheels which stick a little past the fender, still a nice look.
The "Backspace" on this rim is 4.5" (about to get there)
So what rim offset would you want, for me to tell you the exact one (oir anyone for that matter) you would have to tell me the tire size you want to run. are you going to do a 285/70, a 265/70 or the stock 265/65 or something else.
generally though for going up a hair in tire size and flushing it up most poeple say you want around a ballpark backspace of 5" on these vehicles. the tires will also be factored in as I mentioned so you can go with a little more or a little less.
so a 5" backspace on that 8.5" wheel would be a +5mm offset, but as far as I can see on the website, all they have are -6, +18 and +25 listed. if you do the +18 and a 285/70 tire, you should be a few millimeters from flush but also a few mm closer to the control arm. if you do a 265/65 tire you will be 10mm short of that on each side. I would choose the only one that they did not recommend and that's the 18mm tire although not sure about a-arm clearance it should really be closer to like a +10 offset in that width.
the +25mm I am sure they love to recommend with a stock like tire size cause its so similar to stock you wouldn't have clearance issues with that at all.
cool site where you can do the calculations yourself.
Iincluded a picture of one of the comparisons and the stock rim/tires size is on the left (265/65/17) on a 7" wide rim and +25mm offset. http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp
