Default Help with SRS Airbag light & B1100 Code

Hey CL Community,

My ’04 GX470 has the SRS Airbag light on and I assumed the fix would be the $40 seatbelt assembly. However, after I did a Techstream scan I learned that the SRS Airbag system gave me a DTC of B1100 with X’s in the Curr Conf and Hist columns and no X’s in the Pend or Test Failed columns. (see below)

My question is: has anyone dealt with the B1100 code before? I understand that the B1100 code is an Airbag Control Unit malfunction, however the fact that Techstream indicates no failed tests makes me think that there’s something else causing the error instead of the Airbag Control Unit itself.

Note: I know that there are steps to manually diagnose each of the SRS components by testing the wire harness to ensure there are no shorts... I just wanted to explore alternate solutions before I went down that rabbit hole.

Thanks in advance.

I would think that the system checks for shorts to ground/B+ before checking the resistance/continuity of the airbag sensors, so fix this first.

I think there’s a recall on the airbag computer. Check with your dealer but it could be covered.

Thanks, RushNatU. That's the only explanation that makes sense (no offense chiph9) so I'll schedule a visit soon and update the post.

The recall on the airbag controller was for the side-curtain airbags and was a software update. This doesn't look like that, but give it a try.

Recall Number: 16V065000
Recall Date: 02/05/2016
Component : AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW
Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2003-2006 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX470, 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia, 2004-2006 Toyota 4Runner and Lexus GX470 vehicles equipped with side curtain-shield-air bags. The affected vehicles have an air bag control module that may be improperly programmed, causing the side curtain-shield-air bags to deploy inadvertently.

Consequence: If the side curtain-shield-air bags deploy unexpectedly, it can increase the risk of occupant injury.

What Owners Should Do: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air bag control module with one that has improved programming, free of charge. The recall began on December 1, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-271-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is G0C and GLB.
