Hi everyone, first post here.
My uncle is a car dealer and has a 2008 GX470 with 109k miles on his lot he thinks I should purchase (I need a new car). I ran the VIN in Lexus Owners Site and got the service history, which I have attached.
I'm pretty handy so some of the smaller issues I don't mind fixing myself, and he is doing the timing belt and water pump before I pick it up. My biggest concern is with the transmission issue in the latest service appointment.
SERVICE: TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSIS: CUSTOMER STATES THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING DESCRIPTION: TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSIS: CUSTOMER STATES THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING ~|~TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSIS: CUSTOMER STATES THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING ~|~ ~|~109224 ROAD TESTED CAN FEEL TRANY SLIPPING, CHECKED FOR CODES HAS CODES P0776 SOLENOID B PERFORMANCE OR STUCK OFF, P0894 TRANSMISSION COMPONENT SLIPPING, P2714 SOLENOID D PERFORMANCE OR STUCK OFF. HAS INTERNAL PROBLEMS REC NEW TRANSMISSION
My uncle got the car from the auction and had the transmission serviced at a transmission shop. He said the car drives great and there are no CELs or codes. My question is, do you think a diagnostic like that could be fixed with a transmission service? I really don't want to buy a car and have to replace the tranny a month later.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

It's obviously the reason why it was traded. ![Frown](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
A dead or weak solenoid (or two) can certainly cause slipping when shifting.
So far as to whether you're comfortable with this repair when you might be faced with a $500-700 part plus labor - that's up to you. If unknown people on the internet tell you it'll be fine, and then it isn't ...

Well I figured that would be the answer but was hoping maybe it wasn't the case. Unless my uncle can promise to fix the tranny if it fails, I'll pass on the car.

I’ll just say I feel bad that you can’t trust your uncle. Mixing business and family like that is a bad move.
you should be able to talk to the transmission shop that looked at it to find out what the repair was. If it’s not a well respected transmission shop just walk away.

Edit: ignore that...I just looked at the report:
DESCRIPTION: SECONDARY AIR
INJECTION PUMP AND VALVES.
EXTREMELY RUSTY OTHER PARTS
MAY BE REQUIRED
Run away. Rust sucks.
