2016GX460

After an alternator replacement, I reset the clock on our 2008 GX 470. Forgot to remove the key when done since I'm now used to our 2016 GX 460 with push button start. Battery was dead a couple of hours later. Charged the battery at 20 amps for an hour and jumped the car with a 50 amp boost. Let the car run in driveway for an hour. Thereafter, the abs, anti-skid, check engine and other yellow lights would blink on start and then stay on though the 470 drove fine and was charging the battery, Tried to scan for a trouble code. The OBDII reader would turn on and try to scan when plugged but would display No Link. Same result when I turned the key to Accessory and tried to scan. I checked both fuses relating to OBD (the 140 amp starter plus a lot more and the 7,5 amp OBD only) and they were both good. After several short trips, the dash lights went back to lighting when the car started and then immediately going off and staying off. I guess the ECU reset itself? However, my scanner still cannot link to the ECU. The scanner was purchased in 2007 and worked fine on my 2002 Sequoia. Before shelling out for a new scanner, I plan to go to a nearby auto parts store and ask them to do an OBDII scan. Any other thoughts or suggestions?

I would have said check the fuses, but you've already done that. If the scanner works on other vehicles, its not a scanner issue.

UPDATE ... my wife just returned from a short round trip of about 10 miles and tells me the darned dash lights came on again as she pulled into our driveway. So it seemed to cure itself for a day and now the problem is back. I'm now wondering if the battery is charging on the chance there's something going on as a result of the alternator replacement. In that regard, the shop told me they had a heck of a time finding why the 7 month old battery had died. They said they finally discovered that the old alternator was putting out 100 amps {Good} but was occasionally dropping off to 85 amps {Bad}. Presumably, the new one is squirting out a steady 100 amps. Wonder if installation of the new alternator affected some sensor or the ECU and is causing the current problem? Or does the ECU have the alternator drop down in output when it thinks the battery is fully charged and there's been something wrong with the ECU for the whole time? Anybody want to buy a gently used, low mileage 2008 GX 470?

Where you able to fix the problem or did you sell that workhorse?
