Hi all,
I'm a new owner of a '08 GX470. I bought it about 2 months ago, and we didn't really have rain until about 3 weeks ago. After a heavy rain, I noticed the floor mats on the driver and passenger sides in the front were wet. I used to have a in Infiniti G that when that happened it was the drains of the sunroof.
I checked the drains on the sunroof which drained what I though was normaly, and then just to be sure since so many times and in so many posts I've seen it is from there, I ran air, a slight bit of bleach down the lines, as well as got a long semi rigid wire and shoved it down the lenght of the lines. They lines drained fine.
Next I did an at home leak test. I started with a hose along the cowling where the winshield wipers attach, and had no leaks. I then moved up the sides of the windshield with no leaks. When I started going across the top, and got about one third of the way in on each side, I immedately noticed water running down the kick panels on both sides (depending on which side of the windshield I was in).
I've gone to a Lexus shop where the car had its windshield taken out and then put back in, but they are giving me the run around because the work was done with the previous owner, so after the work is done they no longer honor their labor. Mind you, the windshield was taken out just one month before I bought it.
I've gone to glass guys and they tell me that it can't be the glass, I've gone to body guys and they tell me its the glass, but no one is willing to take the car into actually test it and repair it. I don't want to take it to the dealership because the shop where it was done was a Lexus/Toyota dealership bodyshop so I'm trying to not support them.
Does anyone have any ideas what else I can do other than just convincing someone to take apart the windshield and see if it is that?
Thanks in advance!

If you ran a hose over the edge and got water inside, I think you found the problem - the urethane sealant has a gap in it.
I doubt your insurance will pay for this, as the glass is intact.
I think you're just going to have to eat the cost of a new windshield. Ask around to find out who the good installers are in your area. And perhaps ask the shop that did the current one who worked on it, so you don't go back to them.
