My 2004 gx 470 will start perfectly fine after it’s been sitting for a few hours. If I drive it a few miles go eat or watch my sons game, it won’t restart. I smell gas and it actually splatters out of the exhaust pipe.
what could the issue be?

I haven't seen this before, but I did some googling. Common causes seem to be: bad injector(s) dribbling fuel, charcoal canister in emissions system, vacuum leak.
Since you're getting raw fuel dumped out, that points to number 1. But you can also easily check number 2 - when this happens, open the gas cap and see how much air rushes in, and whether it has a good start afterward. Number 3 - buy hose. Replace hose. Repeat until solved.
