Default How good is the factory alarm in a 2009 GX470

Hello everyone, New here to the community.

I recently picked up a 2009 GX470 and wondered how good is the factory alarm? Meaning when I strike the driver door window the alarm does not go off. I would only imagine it would be the same if the window is shattered or if car is hot wired in an attempt to steal it. My questions is how comfortable are you guys with the factory alarm and can you sleep at night knowing it's a factory alarm? I had planned to purchase a VIPER 2 way system but when my buddy called his stereo/alarm guy the worker asked my buddy, "Why does he want an after market alarm when he has a factory alarm?" What am I missing here? Is the factory alarm just as good as aftermarket?

Thank you everyone,
Much appreciated and glad to be joining this forum.
Alain

It’s an 11 year old technology. Don’t know where you are but this truck is not on the top of the stolen vehicle “ got to have it” list....

It's a 2020 model to me . I understand what your saying but I would still like to sleep comfortably at night knowing that if someone is trying to either steal the vehicle or breaking in to steal things inside glovebox me or my neighbors would be notified. There's been a lot of vehicle break-ins in my neighborhood even though it's a decent area.

Same where I am....everyone leaves fob in car, unlocked with stuff on the seats...ours are old technology with keys...would have to break glass to get in...it’s an alarm. Horn goes off , lights flash if someone opens door without the key. Never leave anything visible...plenty of other careless people in your neighborhoods to keep the thieves busy.
