Just got back on this site after many years. I previously owned a 1993 SC300 and am seriously considering a 2008 GX 470 for my wife. The car has a pretty long service history, including timing belt 5k miles ago and exhaust manifold leak was just fixed. Also, no accidents. Has 160k miles and 3 owners, with the most recent owning it for 5 years, averaging 7.5k/year.
The car is in pretty great shape inside and out and I’m very particular. It drove very well and the air suspension works perfectly. I tested it.
Really my only concern is the undercarriage. I’ve attached photos. Asking price is $12,900 and is for sale on consignment at a local dealer. I plan to address the rust by at least pressure washer, degrease, krud kutter (rust remover), and fluid film (or something similar as a rust inhibitor) but will also consider professional service if it doesn’t break the bank. I’ll be able to clean the car well weekly as I have a bay at work, so I don’t anticipate the rust getting much worse, if at all.
Appreciate your opinions and any relevant experiences you can share! Thanks!
Rust doesn’t look too bad to me, I have similar rusting from my NYC truck. I’ve asked multiple mechanics and they’ve all said it’s nothing to worry about.
Just had my Exhaust Manifolds replaced $3k+, so curious to know how the seller says they fixed the leak on this one? I took mine to numerous welders, and none of them wanted to touch the cast iron headers.
What is the exterior colors? Timing belt just being replaced is a major plus!
Thanks for the response. It’s white on dark grey. I’ll inquire further on the leak fix. Good question.
No probs, def take to your trusted mechanic for a PPI. A couple hundred dollars is money well spent to find out any major issues. Plus give you a bit of negotiation leverage.
Clean/degrease plus Fluid Film is a good plan ideally find a shop that is willing to spray the stuff on. Or you can do it yourself look into Fluid Film kits.
