Default How soft/rough is the ride comfort comparing to the GX470??

On the 1st gen GX, there's adjustable suspension that you can adjust the ride comfort. I really like this. For a firmer ride, you can adjust it to sport mode. I see the GX460 has KDSS. I know ride comfort is subjective. If you ever had the GX470 with the adjustable ride, what's your thought on the ride feel when comparing the 2 rigs on normal street driving? Is the GX460(the non-luxury model) ride feel the same as the GX470's sport mode? Thanks.

Sorry but these questions drive me insane ... "comfort" ... Huh-What as you stated ... all subjective. The GX is a truck based platform ... so will NEVER ... no matter Luxury or Premium be an RX or whatever. I have had both the GX470 Luxury and GX460 Premium ... the former AVS for me was an overly complex solution looking for a problem ... no setting made any meaningful difference, with shock replacement being highway robbery in terms of cost for what it represents. The Premium has either Tokico or KYB shocks ... with very different dynamics ... so be aware that "Premium" is not all the same.

GX460 suspension can be adjusted to ‘comfort’ & ‘sport’ as well. I happen to have a 2022 GX460 and had a 2005 GX470. Ride is similar to each other. GX460 has KDSS while my 2005 GX470 was not a sport trim so did not have KDSS. I would say GX460 corners a lot better than GX470, which is attributable to KDSS. Other than that, I would say there are not much difference in ride.

GX460 is made of cheaper stuff, the cheap engine cover, without the body cladding, less wood interior, cheaper seats etc.. if not because of rust issue that makes servicing the old truck more difficult I would’ve not given up the GX470. But GX460 did not sacrifice ride quality and it has the timing chain, one less maintenance to do.

Thanks for the input guys!

@jzzfzz, Good to hear ride quality is similar.

Just curious. The 460 Premium and Luxury version has a more low profile tire(265/55 R19) that match the 19" rim. Do you guys feel any difference in the ride with this tire comparing to the standard 18" wheel tire(265/60R18) on the non-Premium 460 model?

Do yourself a huge favor and negotiate 18" wheels versus the 19" abomination ... limited tire selection in that size and more expensive. Why Lexus foisted this (current) non-standard size on their customers is a complete mystery. If one wants huge rims ... then go 20" which is an established mainstream size. Traveling distance and need a replacement ? ... good luck finding a 19" tire let alone the same brand and specific size (width / aspect ratio) within 1,000 miles for replacement if necessary.

Very few here will have driven on both wheel/tire setups to be able to directly compare. More tire sidewall = nicer ride, as the tire acts to absorb impacts and road imperfections. Less tire sidewall = firmer ride, better handling, as there's less tire to squish and flex.

My choice would be 17" tires, but that's not a factory option. So I swapped some on and pulled the stock wheels off.

You're right. I didn't see too many tire choice for the 19" rim and not to mention the Dunlop is crazily expensive!, about $450 at couple of well known tire store. I just saw Michelin has the defender tire with that size so it may not be too much of an issue in the future. Fingers crossed.
I will have to think this over some more. The features and 19" rim style is what I like on the Premium sports package.

I did not notice huge difference but i only drove on the 19” tires for 220 miles. I prefer higher side wall tires so I removed the 19” wheels and tires and put on the 18”. I also have a set of powder coated GX470 wheels on 17” tires which I have not tried yet. I guess the 17” would make a more noticeable difference.

Contrary to the "taller sidewall = comfort" logic ... I have found that higher quality shocks perform better with a less "buffered" input from the road surface ... meaning that a softer tire / taller sidewall does not always translate to an improved ride. Shocks and Tires work in concert ... with the Lexus shocks IMHO being abysmal at best compared to higher quality alternatives.

When I switched from the factory 18" wheels with low profile tires to 265/70/17's the ride quality improved. However my 2008 GX470 had a very nice ride and was quieter.
