Exclamation GX ride

Just got my 2023 GX 460 Premium because I wanted to have the last of the v8 available ( maybe ever) I love the truck but feel that the ride on small road imperfections can be a bit tough than what I am used to. I just noticed that the tires are nitrogen filled ( could that be an issue? ) the pressure is at its lowest 32 PSI can anything be done to soften the ride a bit with small modifications perhaps?

What are you used to? I have a '23 Luxury and I think it rides incredibly well for a body on frame SUV. It will never feel like a unibody car or crossover, nor should it since it has its roots in the Landcruiser Prado.

My previous ride was Tahoe, Luxury trim has adaptive suspension which is why you don't feel it they same way

I do have the AVS, but I keep it in sport all the time. It's a little too floaty for me in comfort. Air suspension in the rear may make a difference?

... exactly why for me the AVS feature is worthless complexity ... IMHO comfort mode is like driving with an epidural ... a numbing driving experience.

The way Lexus bundles options you end up getting things you don't want in order to have the things you do. I wanted the semi-aniline leather, off-road package and ML. AVS and air suspension I would not have bought if could have configured it according to my wants. Only the Luxury trim had my must-haves, but I had to compromise on the others.

Tire Pressure is Tire Pressure ... Nitrogen / Air ... no difference ... plus Air is 78% Nitrogen ... plus no "Tire Fill" is 100% Nitrogen anyway ... unless the tire cavity is completely evacuated before the Nitrogen fill ... which is impossible. Unless you are a race car driver that needs as close to constant tire pressure over temperature range ... the Nitrogen thing is a total marketing ploy. In fact ... Consumer Reports did a test ... Nitrogen vs Air permeating the tire walls ... and after 12-months, the pressure difference was only 1.3 psi across a range of tires.

Try increasing the tire pressure to 36psi ... counterintuitive ... you might be surprised that the shocks do a better job given road feedback to the shock valving is then not "dumbed down" with spongy tires ... so they are significantly more effective.

Let the tires break in over the first couple thousand miles… the ride will smooth out and/or you will get used to it.

The fixation on Tires and Tire Pressure ...

The GX is a Body-on-Frame vehicle ... a glorified Toyota 4-Runner ... with the suspension not designed for "high-end sedan level comfort" ... the GX460 / Toyota 4-Runner / FJ Cruiser all have the exact same suspension design ... so Lexus installed AVS Shocks on the GX for the "comfort crowd" ... and also installed (Dunlop) tires that are like water balloons ... with no directional stability whatsoever, and even dangerous if one was in an emergency maneuver situation. So my point ... don't buy a GX if you want a ride where the road imperfections do not exist ... this platform in terms of suspension design was never intended for that purpose ... even with AVS shocks as a lame (and expensive) attempt to compensate.

Yes, this a body on frame truck.
Some types of bumps and dips will feel harsh. At 45 to 50 mph, manhole covers that are lower than top of grade are annoying.
Residential speed and Highway speeds this thing is very comfortable and smooth.

100% truth about the manhole covers a couple inches deep. Rattles the hell out of me.

Your Tahoe has longer wheelbase and is wider, which help in ride. I have a Tundra and I feel the same as you do. It takes LX to match. I still love my GX though. It is tighter, full time 4WD, easier to maneuver in smaller spaces, it is durable, and it handles different terrains well.

Agreed. My OE Bridgestones are no longer as harsh as during the first year of ownership. Tires in general can make a significant difference. My GX still rides more comfortably on winter tires.

Hang on, isn't this why the lube tech was hooking up a vacuum pump to my tires? This has to be one of the biggest shams of the industry. Sad that folks will fork over $100+ for this "addon" - not calling out the OP.
