Default Dealer Service Department - "Suggested Services"

Have had no issues with my 2022 GX -- however, it was about time for the 20K mile service so I took it into the dealer today. The Vehicle Inspection checked out fine with the exception of one yellow "Recommended Maintenance/Miscellaneous Service" mark.

Which the advisor explained as two recommended services: (1) 3 Part Fuel Service for $287.21 and (2) A/C Refresh for $253.45.

When I asked about the rationale for the 3 Part Fuel Service (i.e., was it based on some observation or known issue) he said, no, but it is a good idea to do it - same for the A/C Refresh.

Have attached the repair order estimate for others to see.

I have to say, this didn't feel right to me - but, I'm interested in what others have to say about these services @ 20K miles and if anyone else has had these services done (and for what reason).

Thanks.

Interesting. I’m taking my ‘22 for 20K soon as well. Those two were optional add-on when I set up my appointment.

I respect the hustle of your chosen dealership lol

10++ years on ... Toyota / Lexus ... A/C recharge ... this is a rip-off ... unless your cooling temperature is compromised.

Let's get serious ... the "Service Advisors" are trained to check as many services boxes as possible. They have absolutely no understanding as to what any service means other than being rewarded for pulling more money for the dealership. They are administrators ... so best to go to a qualified Toyota service shop where you can engage with a real mechanic ... or a mechanic who elevated to a service advisor.

This Lexus dealership has been my chosen site for service - the other two Lexus dealerships in town (which are closer to my home) have their shady / questionable practices and issues - this service department has been fine to work with (no pushing extra services, etc.) -- until this visit. Maybe their sales departments are not pulling in as much profit since the Covid shortages and the service department is stepping up with additional not required services to bridge their income gap.

So shady to incorporate the subtle messaging of "yellow condition" (without a valid rationale and explanation) on the checklist.

Over the past few years, I've read a bunch forum posts by GX owners sharing their ownership and experiences - I can't remember ANY post about needing these services early in the life of a GX.

oh well, gotta stay sharp avoid the sharks.

Did they not try to sell you a new car claiming your '22 is just a worthless used one?

That would be a "red condition" on their checklist.

Just say no. The service advisors are trained to stick with the script, and have sales on their mind.

Also, I’m sure some have gained experience with reading body language.

I’ve never had any up sales attempts on any of my Lexus vehicles. I’ve had them say things like. The tires are getting close to needing replacement. I just said they sure are. Costco was 25 percent less than what you quoted me. Thanks

36k on my ‘21 GX and have never have never seen any suggested bull **** services on my repair ticket.
Maybe OP needs to ask for a different SA or go to a different dealership.

"Service Advisors" are salespeople. Period. It is their *only* function. Forget that and money will transfer from your pocket to theirs.
