Hello,
I am in the process of buying a used 2019 GX 460 with 70,000 miles from a local non-Lexus dealership. I took it to the Lexus dealership service department for a pre-purchase inspection before finalizing the purchase. Everything checked out fine except the Lexus mechanic discovered a Transfer Case Seal Leak.
The BMW/Mini dealership selling the car to us agreed to fix the issue with their mechanics.
My questions:
1. Is it surprising that a 2019 is having a problem like this at 70K miles?
2. Is this a reason to not buy the car, or something to fix and not worry about?
3. Any worries with BMW mechanics fixing this problem?
4. Any other advice?
We really want the car (great price, good condition) but are worried this could be a sign of other issues.
Thanks!

If you like the truck otherwise and it was not wrecked or trashed I would have zero problem buying it. Yes, things sometimes go wrong, a TC leak is not the end of the world. A certified BMW mechanic doing the job should be a non-issue.

Did they take pictures and show you or did you see it with your own eyes? I say this because most "leaks" are technically weaps and nothing to worry about. I would say 99% who drive a lexus never look at the undercarriage of their vehicle and they just keep driving them and they keep going... latent/ undetected weaps and leaks and all... wouldn't sweat it in the least. Make sure the CDL works when engages and drop the fluid after you buy it. Could just as easy be some propeller shaft grease sling or some other undercarriage protection treatment someone got over zealous with...
