Default Wind and GX = Whoa!!

So, we finally seem to have caught a break from million degree temps here in DFW .. with wind gusts (25+ mph) and some rain.. Awesome! But, driving the GX on the highway with those cross winds felt like the thing would get swept three lanes over!!

I get that the GX is narrow and tall, but wow! Never felt that in a few minivans I’ve been in similar weather..

Not a pleasant experience..

North Texas native here, it really isn't that bad in Texas in a GX, now stroll through Wyoming and you'll see real winds. LOL

Gusts about 40-50 would make for a fun ride but I didn't have much trouble in Texas on crosswinds. The worst are the endless flat roads and a strong headwinds. That's were it gets unpleasant in Texas. Well that and the heat. Thank goodness I got outta there this year.

Shocks in "Comfort Mode" combined with "P-Rated" Tires at 32psi does not help. Real Shocks + LT Tires + 36psi makes a big difference.

this for sure, also on top of comfort mode if the shocks all around are old then even worse

I previously owned a 2019 Sprinter 2500 4x4 High Roof van... and my GX is a piece of cake in high cross winds compared to the Sprinter "brick" on wheels. My 2022 Premium Sport with 34PSI in the tires handles winds with a great deal of composure.

Gladly, the shocks are fine on the GX for now. Am getting new tires today ( Defender LTX M/S ) to replace a set of fairly new ( but bad ) Latitude Tour HPs .. I suppose, I'll keep'em at 36 psi ( vs the current 34 ) and see if it makes a difference.

When these shocks wear out, I'll get the Bilsteins.

You'll be fine, pull up your skirt and call me when you deal with 40-50mph wind gusts and freezing rain, white out zero visibility, or both. The list of complaints is never ending I swear, and the best part is some of these people have no idea what difficult driving conditions the GX dominates in. Agree 100% with C-rated tires at 36psi.

PS sorry for the rant.

on TV they call that wintry mix blizzard. one of the few scary moments in the GX on the interstate. mostly from fear of others crashing into you. but no one can see even the front of their own vehicles, cant pull over because you cant see the road and dont want in the ditch. if you stop you get rear ended, if you dont you rear end someone else. usual speed is 5 mph. cant wait it out anyways because it could last for the entire day or more.

If I still lived in a state with crazy winter, I'd be running Nokian HakkaPeliittas. Been in many ridiculous blizzards, and the Nokians always came thru..

Nokian HAKKAPELIITTA ... best winter tire on the planet earth ... amazing on snow and ice ... no other tire even comes close. Have a dedicated set on steelies ... and mount on my GX460 or FJ Cruiser or 4-Runner depending on which I want to use (to bring food to stranded neighbors that have pretend SUV's).

@ASE 💯 % !! Used to be fun going to BMW club meets ( upstate NY and folks from across the border ) in the dead of winter, and most would be sporting these ! RWD and these Nokians through mountains of snow, black ice, sleet et al and zero issues, unless someone was being stupid..

No denying the prowess of the Nokians. I was very satisfied with the K02's on my GX470, and the first set lasted me 65k miles. The GX460 has Micheline LTX m/x that are almost new, and interested to see if they live up to the hype this winter.

Michelin Defender LTX M/S is about the best non-dedicated winter tire I have experienced. I have the Nokian's on dedicated steelies for easy change-out. Yes ... the cost ... but one accident more than pays for this "insurance".

Yeah I will NEVER tell someone to not buy dedicated snow tires. All of our vehicles with the exception of the GX470 w/ KO2's gets dedicated winter tires.

In 2 weeks I will be installing my studded Nokian HAKKAPELIITTA, in preparation for a trip. British Columbia requires winter tires from Oct 1 to April 30
