Carpet Floor Mats
In the irrelevant GX news department... the newer carpet floor mats are thinner. I just bought new carpet floor mats for my '13 GX. Brought one of the originals with me in the dealership to make sure it the replacements were the same. Same looks but new ones feel much thinner. Even parts person agreed when he compared. I thought maybe Lexus was pulling a J Crew / Outlet store like switcheroo by selling cheaper versions of interior pieces via the parts department than what they ship in the cars. So I went into the showroom and felt the mat in a 2023 Lux GX they had and it also was thinner like the new mats via parts. Not sure when they made the manufacturing switch (assuming that old mats don't get more thick/plush over time and I am mistaken that there was a change).

Yes I can confirm. I bought a set old floor mats and they are much thicker, heavier than the new set that came with the truck.
All car makers are going cheap, including Lexus. Compare GX460 and GX470 one can tell quickly. Seats are no longer leather, wood inserts are tiny. I looked at my engine cover and thought Corollas must have the same kind of engine covers. Even my 2022 luxury uses cheaper materials than my 2005. I hope they did not sacrifice build quality.

If you are looking for high quality plush mats with other color options, I highly recommend Lloyds LUXE mats.

Ah, maybe my '13 has the thicker mats bc it was built in Dec 12. I wonder if one can get the thicker ones. I guess I will use the thinner ones for now. The old ones are still in pretty good shape but I wanted a really clean look to refresh the space a bit.
@JZZFZZ The earlier version of the GX460 ('10-'13) all had either leather or semi-aniline leather. Prem (Lux) had semi-aniline but you could also option a package for the semi-aniline in the base model as well. I do think the 460 has some benefits over the 470 - no timing belt to replace and all trims have KDSS standard. I think in the 470 it was option only. But I do think the 470 is by far the best looking over the 460 and the 550 (at least in the pix of the 550)

yeah they are trying to cut costs to not have to raise prices as much. theres a lot coming from toyota and lexus in the next 2-3 years. been comparing between my gx, the 550, the LC250 versions and the newer smaller LC. the new vehicles have some nice options but not enough to be worth the cost compared to my zero payment gx. the cheapening just makes the switch that much more difficult to justify.

I’ve seen this in every new vehicle I’ve purchased in recent years. Maybe also they’re calculating many won’t be concerned bc they’ll immediately purchase all weather mats. We did. Not even sure the dealership left the original carpet mats in the car. Don’t think they did now that I consider.
