Default Yota Tune

Hi there, anyone tried Yota Tune? I have been seeing a lot of ads from them. They claim it will improve the GX more than just throttle response like using Pedal Commander. I think it's the same as OTT. Any feedback?

Here is the info from one Canadian dealer - Lexus GX 460/470 - SK Overland Tuning

2005-2023 Lexus GX (460/470)
Tuning begins with making sure your GX is on the latest software update from Lexus, we only build tune files on the latest Lexus software. If your GX needs an update before the tune it will be applied for free.
Full transmission tuning is supported.

Main improvements include:
– Better throttle response
– More torque and horsepower throughout the entire power band, especially in the low end
– Power gains at 2700 RPM: +13.6 ft/lbs / +7.1 HP
– Smoother, more predictable shifting
– Improved towing performance

Options are also available for:
– Throttle sensitivity preferences

2005-2018 GX 460/470
Standard OTT Tune starts at: $589 +GST

I have a YotaWerx 89 aggressive tune on my GX460 and I'll tell you the truth. Improves throttle response and shift mapping and has improved high elevation and cruise control performance. As for the BHP/Torque gains? Yea, probably not going to be much and definitely not those numbers you posted on an otherwise stock GX460. You'll need to modify the exhaust starting with the manifold to see any sorts of noticeable power gains. I don't think I even got much more than ~5bhp / 5tq with this tune on factory exhaust headers. I still think the tune is worth it just for what I mentioned.

Thanks for responding! How does the throttle response and shift mapping improve from say putting the transmission in S mode? I recently started using S mode and noticed more immediate response from the gas pedal

I frequently run S mode for engine braking and passing. My tune was outfitted with the equivalent to city +2 for the pedal commander. The throttle response and general acceleration is even more immediate in S mode.

Is there a difference between D and S? I could never tell if there was. I use it a lot too because I am in the mountains of Utah and tow frequently. Never found it to make a difference.

I have a Yotawerks tune and it’s definitely an improvement. I used to run a pedal commander and dont anymore. It wont increase power in any meaningful way but the truck just drives better.

Using say S5 or S4, does it alternate the shift timing when comparing to S6 or D? I think S5 or S4 means the transmission effectively becomes a 5 speed or 4 speed transmission, respectively. Whereas S6 and D are same right? For instance, if I am in S4, does the transmission shift from say 3rd to 4th at the same time vs if I were in S6 or D?

Since I do not tow nor drive in areas with high elevation, would you say it's a waste of money to get the tune? The installer near me said he offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee so I can try it out but I wouldn't want to waste his or my time if it isn't going to be a noticeable improvement for me.

Also, have you guys noticed any difference in MPG? I have had the car for about 62k km or close to 39k miles and I avg 15-ish MPG. Is this tune going to make things worse? Wife wouldn't be happy if it does! LOL

Is it windy where you are? The cruise control performance works much better with the tune. If you have flat areas and heavy winds the GX is horrendous about maintaining speed with cruise control and the tune eliminates that and the excessive gear hunting. MPG did not improve for me, but keep in mind I have an aggressive tune to squeeze out as much power as I can with 89 octane.

If you don't worry much about cruise control, don't tow, and don't travel in higher elevations then it may not be worth it.

On my 2021 the cruise control works flawlessly, I live in western Canada and regularly drive through the Rocky Mountains with lots of elevation change & wind, speed stays right on where it is set and I can adjust it on the stalk up/down by 1kph increments.

I notice on mine it usually is fine if I am running around 80MPH (128.748 km/h) on the interstate. Below 75 and it usually wants to drop two gears, hammer the throttle and then overshoots the set speed if pulling a steeper grade. I haven’t looked back if perhaps behavior was modified ‘20+. Closer to the 80 mark it will only drop one gear and feels normal.

The GX has a crazy tall top gear - 0.59:1 - and 5th is OD, also. Rolling hills, wind and similar situation will make a constant speed hard to maintain with CC on, the transmission in D and speeds below 80mph, as Acrad said. I just pull the shifter to the left to eliminate the OD gears, or maybe bump it one up to have access to one less aggressive OD gear, in those situations. Mine is not tuned.

Just got back from a 600 mile round trip (‘14 with 113k)… setting CC at 82, going up a hill, trans would drop one… but set CC at 84, trans would drop 2 going up a hill.
