One of the front USB ports in our new 2023 does not work for CarPlay or charging

Dealer ordered new USB assembly
Took my 2023 GX in today, along with a printout of the half dozen or so of us that had USB troubles with production dates September October 2023. Dealer verified the issue and ordered the new part. No argument at all.

I’ve been struggling for weeks with unreliable connection to CarPlay in my ‘22 GX after trying unsuccessfully multiple cables and adapters; I swapped to the “bottom” USB A port and BINGO - works perfectly all the time! The other USB A port is used to power a dash camera. Premium Plus w/Mark Levinson and 12/21 build date.

Dealer already has the part in and I will need to schedule a follow-up appointment next week. It's 8619024030 (see below). I will also post as to whether the replacement works.

Usb port issues
i was thinking in the opposite direction. I hope this is not “working as designed”, but might be an issue with a particular batch of parts - considering that all of us reporting it in this thread are probably late 2023 builds. Would be interesting if someone with a ‘22 is having the same issue.
Fwiw, there is some weasel wording in the manual (p. 446) about how the usb ports might not work with every phone, and might occasionally stop and start charging. I haven’t brought mine in for service yet, but i’m hoping i don’t have to fight with the dealer about it.

Was there a bad batch of this particular part that were defective causing this problem? Does anybody know? Are all the GX's that are affected by this part malfuction built between September 2023 to October 2023 or are there other production dates besides that which are also affected? I just purchased a brand new 23 GX460 and mine was built on November 3rd (11/03/23). I'm not sure about the exact date, but I beleive that production of the 23 GX460 stopped sometime around the end of November to the beginning of December. Does anyone know exactly when the 23 GX production stopped?

Today my Lexus dealer replaced the USB assembly in the console, under warranty. I paid my bill for another accessory purchase , thanked the service advisor, and went out to test my iPhone 15 Pro with the Anker 3 ft. USB-A to USB- C cable I normally use.
Surprisingly the phone did the same thing as before on the upper port (intermittent on and off charge), and charged normally on the lower port. I called the service advisor over and showed him the behavior, and he immediately got with the mechanic to see what he used to test with. It turned out to be a skinny cable that worked perfectly with my phone and the advisor’s phone as well. I watched in amazement as it charged perfectly in the upper port. At that point I figured the Anker cable was bad, thanked the advisor again, and returned home.
The other cable I had in the house was the Apple cable that came with the phone. Took it out to the GX and in another surprise, that one did the same thing: intermittent on/off.
Tonight I ordered Belkin and Amazon Basics cables to try them. Wish now I had asked what kind of cable the mechanic had.
Conclusion? There may be something unusual with certain USB assemblies on late model GS-460s that makes them very sensitive to the brand of cable used. Affects both new vehicles and spare parts inventories, possibly.
Will report back when I have more cables to test. If anyone else has ideas or different experiences please let us all know.

Thanks for the update. For what it’s worth I’ve tried:
- Lexus USB cable (accessory item included at vehicle purchase)
- Apple recommended Belkin cable from Apple Store with Apple CarPlay-specific compatibility callout
- Porsche-brand cable
- Apple Lightning-to-USB-C adapter (and Apple OEM Lightning cable), again with a specific CarPlay compatibility feature callout
- Anker braided cable
- Anker thin cable
- Mophie cable
- Magtame (?) magnetic coiled cable
- Two different wireless CarPlay adapters
These are all USB-A (GX460) to USB-C (iPhone 15/Pro/Pro Max) cables (and the wireless CarPlay adapters). So far, the behavior in the upper port is the same, i.e., constant cycling of power on/off.
If you find one that works, please let us know!

My guess is that the upper port is very slightly wider so that the pressure between the electrical contacts upon inserting a cord is not solid enough for consistent electrical flow. I'd try a very small shim (piece of paper to start) on the non-contact side of the cable connector as it's being inserted into the port. The goal is to press the connectors together more tightly.
