Attended a 35-person workshop in the 80's ... Deming was the instructor ... brilliant, but had absolutely no patience for those that (from his perspective) had no clue ... his "handler" had to constantly calibrate his demeanor. Yes, the Japanese were smart enough to understand and adopt his approach ... while the Big-3 continued to deliver new vehicles with missing parts.

 

In terms of data sample size, the common generational platform(s) do offer additional insight ... the 4-Runner, FJ Cruiser and Tacoma ... with the 4-Runner Limited being the closest from a hardware standpoint.

 

Very cool, he was a brilliant guy. He and McArthur were the only two white guys held in reverence in Japan. This may have changed, Mac changed their culture drastically during his time as the Supreme Commander Allied Powers and three years running Japan as the appointed ruler. Deming changed their future just as drastically but with far more lasting impact globally.

Sometimes folks with very high intellects are not so capable of dialing it down a bit.
