Default Discolored Rear Window Defroster

I recently purchased a used '21 Premium and saw that the rear window defroster was discolored and looks rusted/burnt out. I'm curious if anyone has seen this before and if this could be a problem as I'm planning on getting my windows tinted. It's been warming up recently so I haven't had a chance to test it but I did buy the vehicle from CarMax so I do have 30 days to return it if it's potential issue.

Can you capture this with a camera? I've never seen such a thing except when tint was peeled off and part of the defogger material came with it.

Sure. Sorry I'm not sure what you mean, are you able to see my photos or are you asking for more? Here's another one below that wasn't uploaded in my original post for some reason.

I live in the Bay Area in California and honestly this is the first time I've ever seen this before so really curious what caused this.

Apologies this is the 2nd time images failed to load for me on this site. A forced refresh fixed it. Not sure what to make of that almost like only some of the material is corroding. Have you been able to test if the defogger works properly?

My word of advice to you is to bring the vehicle back to Carmax and give it back to Carmax. Then go to a Lexus dealership and buy a certified preowned GX460 without any of these problems. A Lexus dealership is the best place to buy the GX460 or any other Lexus model whatever it may be.

Ah okay, understood. Unfortunately it's been warm the past couple of days so I haven't had a chance to test it but I plan on doing so when I can. I haven't seen any other GX with this issue so I think it's probably better to be cautious and return it.

I've had positive experiences with CarMax in the past and since this GX still has some of its manufacturer warranty remaining, I wasn't too worried. Unfortunately, this is my 3rd GX from CarMax that has had issues from the start so I think I'll have to go your suggested route and purchase a CPO. I definitely have noticed inventory for the GX has decreased quite a bit in the past few months so hopefully a solid deal will pop up over the next couple of weeks.

Could it possibly be from a window cleaning product?

haven't experienced any problem with my GX (there is almost zero chance to use it in TX)

Good to hear that it hasn't caused any issues so far. I've looked at forums with other vehicles that had discoloration and some had their windows replaced and others say it's common and not an issue. Temperatures are supposed to be dropping here for the next few days so I should be able to test it soon

It was still under warranty in year 2017 for my 2014 GX460.
I probably brought it to dealership and it was not replaced under warranty.
