Default Transmission drain-n-fill

I've scheduled an independant shop to do a drain-n-fill on my 2012 GX460. It has 178k miles, and as far as I know, there's never been any tranny work or maintenance done. I've read that a tranny flush is a no-no, but the tech I spoke with said that even doing a drain-n-fill may do more harm than good - something about the friction modifiers already in the tranny? I figured a drain-n-fill would be either good, or no harm. Thoughts?

With that many miles, I would replace the ATF filter. With the pan off, you can look at the contents on the magnets. If it has the normal black crud, a drain/refill should not do any damage.
