Default How to get OEM paint matched door edge guards off

My only regret with the GX I purchased was getting one with the OEM paint matched door edge guards. Based on everything else I wasn't going to pass on it but I couldn't stand the look of them and thought they ruin the clean body lines. I tried everything when I first purchased it to include heating them up with a heat gun. It's over 80 degrees here today and I just did some shopping at Costco and when I came back my GX was very hot. I thought I would give it a try again prying at them with a plastic panel tool and they all popped right off with no damage whatsoever to the paint. I did a lot of research and everything I read said you couldn't get them off without damaging the paint but if you leave your GX out in the sun on a very warm day they will be warm and malleable enough to come off with a plastic trim tool.

... surprising given they have to be installed (almost violently) using a rubber mallet ... so good to know ...
