Default Differential Fluid

Any issues using 75w-90 vs 75w-85?

I think the weight it not really an issue, 75W most agree for fuel economy mainly. However, if you look at Ravenol or Redline both of which make 75W transfer case specifically for toyota, they are both GL4 spec, vs the differentials which are GL5. Most of the 75w-80/90 are GL5 and there is a difference in those 2 specs. Im not sure if it matters, but it might. Toyota I believe use to use 75-85 in the transfer case, but there was a part number change and then it became LF 75W. I cannot tell if the the LF 75W spec is GL4 or not.

why not just use what you are supposed to use and not worry about it?

I went with Ravenol 75w for transfer case and 75w-85 for the diffs, they meet spec and are cheaper then OEM fluids, redline seems to be the other option to match specs for less money

ditto for me. As an added bonus, the Ravenol bottles make getting the fluid in so easy.

Have used AMSOIL 75w90 in the diffs and Redline 75w in the T case for some time.
