As stated, new to the site and Lexus world. Got interested in the Gx460 when looking to replace a 2002 Tahoe w/5.3 4wd (265,000 miles). Didn't want a new Chevy due to the AFM system. Ruled out Ford, not interested in V6 Turbo or 10-speed transmissions. My wife will be the primary driver and she was leaning toward a 4 Runner. Was amazed to find I could get in a similar year & mileage V8 Lexus 4WD for less than a 4Runner.
Ended up with a 2019 Premium w 30,000 miles.
Also want to mention, not new to the Toyota family, the wife's vehicle we replaced is a 98 Avalon w/ 165,000 miles.
We tend to keep cars for a while, another reason I went with the GX.

I'm pretty old so I've been through a few cars. Typically keep them until they become a problem (or die). Datsun (piece of crap). VW Scirocco (loved that car), a couple of Subaru's, three Ford trucks, a Honda GL, a 2008 Grand Cherokee (loved that car), a Ford Taurus wagon (the most boring, but it ran). My last ride was a 2015 Ford F-150. Solid truck, served its purpose. My Dad had one of the old Toyota 4x wagons back in the 70's. Blue and white. I did a lot of 4-wheeling with that. Awesome car for the time. Hand throttle was the coolest gizmo ever!
I'm thrilled to have the GLX. It was a bit of an impulse buy as I didn't really know much about it when I bought it (one week ago). Now I know. I LOVE that what a lot of people hate it for is what a lot of people love it for. 11,000 miles, lease return, paid 47K. It fits me perfectly. Very excited to join the family!
Traded a 2020 Escalade that was towed out of my driveway 3 times. Walked with GX and cash.
Already working on mods and chrome delete.
Bought some 14' wheels that are being powder coated gloss black. Blackout headlamps coming, installed beat sonic and changed all bulbs to LEDs. Have been experimenting with vinyl, plastic-dip and have some matching paint coming. I'm what people would call a tinkerer and enjoy finding and sharing ideas.

This is the same vehicle, complete with side molding delete.. It will satisfy the tinkerer itch and save you real coin on property tax if you happen to live in a property tax state.
2011 Base, Pearl White, Cream interior, lots of bells and whistles. Have since done some mods and will be posting about it because everyone on here was a great reference along the way.
Hi All! 2023 Lux/off-road package/black interior; surprised my 2013 C63 AMG with 116k miles has better gas mileage; looking forward to many long trips and miles with my wife; love the vibes in this forum LOL!
Hi all,
An old feller from E.KY. here. I just bought a 2017 GX460 Premium W 123k mi. Straight as an arrow.
I am here because I do my own maintenance and hope to benefit from the wisdom here, regarding these vehicles.

Hey Fellow GX Owners......Had my 2017 Lexus GX460 for 4 Years and doing offroad upgrades along the way. Made lots of "discoveries" and learned a lot along the way. Installed an Ironman 2.5" Foam Cell Pro Lift, Ironman UCA's, CBI Stealth front Bumper and Fuel Shok Wheels. learned alot from this Forum. Did all my own work and wanted to share my "discoveries" with anyone who might be doing the same.
Modifications cause a cascade of other Modifications
I'm sure that everyone who has modified their GX suspension has seen big improvements in offroad capability, but at the very first modification, I unknowingly started a cascade of modifications that I had not planned for. Initially, I installed the Ironman Foam Cell Pro 2.5" lift. I was happy with the lift, but a couple problems arose from that mod. The first is that the KDSS lean of 1/2" grew to 1.5". The second is that the Caster would not come into spec with the stock UCA's and I noticed some pretty strong bump steer (stock wheels and tires at the time). So, I then installed the Ironman UCA's (post recall with improved balljoints). I also installed a 25mm spacer on top of the passenger side ironman coil spring and a 1/4" spacer on top of the front Ironman strut on the passenger side and had a new alignment done. Bump steer disappeared, the truck was level and everything felt perfect or so I thought....We took a trip to the Black Gap trail in Bend Bend NP and I could feel/hear some rubbing at the front wheels. When we got back onto pavement, I noticed that the outside edge of the Ironman UCA's had alot of black smudges on them and the inside of the tire (stock 265/60/18 Wildpeaks on +25mm offset stock rims). So, now I figured that the stock rims with +25mm offset was not going to work with this suspension configuration. I purchased some 1" spacers, but I did not feel comfortable with that solution and the rear studs stuck out past the spacers a little. I think it probably would have worked since the stock rims have some recesses in the back that could have provided the clearance. I decided on the "Cadillac" solution which was new rims and tires. The new rims are 18x9 with a zero offset, with 265/65/18 Wildpeaks. One of the good things about buying the spacers was that it told me have much clearance a zero offset would give me to the UCA's, which turned to be roughly an inch. I have a story about the CBI Stealth Bumper, but I''l save that for another post
I am Mark, we are moving to Baja Mexico and taking out 2011 GX460 with every options available, we have made a few modifications to get ready to the trip and new off-grid life. The 460 is pearl white and has 178,000 miles on it, we have added a roof rack and off-road tires. We did not do anything with the suspension like a lift because it takes me down a $10,000 rabbit hole of bumpers and accessories, so that wont happen.
