Default Greetings

Greetings fellow Lexus owners! While I've used this site for information related to my partner's 2005 GX470, and since I purchased a 2016 GX460, I haven't formally introduced myself. My name is Bill and I live in Kansas City, Missouri. I purchased my Lexus at Hendrick Lexus North in Kansas City.

Here are the specs on my GX460...

2016 GX 460
Onxy Black exterior and Black leather with Mahogany trim
Navigation / Mark Levinson
Luxury package

I previously drove a 2007 Hummer H3 which had 146k miles on it. My Lexus purchase was kind of a quick one as the timing chain tensioner on the Hummer broke about a .5 mile from home one night! Initial thoughts after the defect occurred, I thought it could be a fuel pump. The Lexus mechanic who had been previously doing maintenance on the Hummer determined it was not the fuel pump but was in fact a problem with the timing chain system! My research for vehicles included Ford, Chevy, Toyota, and Infiniti, but after test driving the Sequoia, and test driving the QX60/QX80, and test driving the GX460, my gut feeling always told me the GX460 was the better vehicle. As I stated in the beginning of this post, my partner has a GX470 and her mother has a 2006 ES300 Black Diamond edition so I already was familiar with the Lexus brand and quality, plus the team at Hendrick Lexus North has always been professional and treated me like family. So the decision to get the GX460 above anything else was made easier! Plus they gave me a rather generous trade-in for a vehicle that was not driveable! I look forward to interacting on this site much like I did on the Elcova Hummer Forums! There is a lot to learn from using forums like this! Plus I have a question and didn't want to post the question prior to introducing myself and then get a scathing nastygram from the moderator!

Just got a new to me 2011 in Knight's Armor Pearl with 86k miles. I was originally shopping for a 4Runner but then saw these could be had for less than a 4Runner of the same year with way less mileage. Figured why not get all the luxury and the V8 for cheaper. I've always loved Toyotas and it's been a long time since I've had one. I was driving a 2008 Honda Pilot previously which just made me miss my old 4Runner and pickups.

I love it. The only thing I will do at some point is go to AT tires. I was wanting to go up a size to 265/65/r18 but I've been reading that the spare won't fit so I may have to rethink that.

Welcome to CL
Nice color, I saw one at Costco parking lot yesterday and it probably just had a wax and the color looks so deep and shiny.
Which part of CA you're from? 265/65/18 should fit fine with stock rims.

I'm in the Bay Area. I'm confident the 265/65r18s will fit fine for driving. I've just read that there is no space whatsoever to put a larger spare on and have it fit. Not sure I want to have a spare that is a size smaller, but we'll see.

I see you have the Wildpeaks, what size are you running?

I'm running stock size for the Wildpeaks. You can probably air the 265/65 down a bit and it would fit in the spare location.

Default New GX owner

Hey Guys after about 6-9 months of searching and going back and for between a new Tundra and a GX, i recently picked up an 11' Gx Premium with rear entertainment. White with light interior. It had 72K mile was an immaculate one owner trade from BMW dealer, paid 23 cash and was pretty pleased with the deal. I saw some premiums with rear entertainment going for mid 20's. Smells and drives new. I couldn't be happier. It drives incredibly smooth, has literally all the options that a new Tundra has other than adaptive cruises and its an 11'. I can tow my boat ( 2000 lbs) and do almost anything I want with it. I am biased to the 10-13 front ends they just look smoother to me. I am going to change out the stock wheels/tires. Looking at Falken Wilkpeaks AT3, I'd like a clean flush look, leaning to a 265/65-18 and a +12-20 offset. Ive heard guys fitting 275/55-20 but dono If I wanna chance the fit. Some 265/65-18's look pretty solid and sharp of done right. Any feedback or info Id love the pics. Thanks again for all the insights on here. Couldn't be happier.

Me too...i am interested in 265/65/18 with stock rims. I hope no rubbing at extremes of steering and compression.

nice choice. check for the unimod, the small air filter. if not done, should do it. could prevent a ton of problems. i think its covered till 80000 or so, but best to do now before you forget

275/55/20 KO2 on 20x9 Relations Race RR5-V in 0mm offset on mine with Dobinsons 50mm/45mm suspension.

Rubs all the plastics...but not the body mount. It'll probably fit a stock suspension setup, but less offset like your +10-20mm will pull it out of the plastics just a hair.

Welcome to ownership. I replied to your inquiry in the welcome thread, but here's more 275/55/20 with 0mm offset. 9" wide and 0mm offset puts the tire tread just inside the fender/wheel well lip. The tire sidewall bulge just outside the lip.

I have 265/65/18's on my 2010. Nitto Terra Grapplers (A/T) to be specific. I had them installed at stock ride height with zero rub whatsoever. I then decided to add some 1.25" hubcentric spacers and I do now get slight rub in reverse, but removing a bolt or two inside the fenderwell should do the trick.
