If you have the OEM premium or luxury wheel, you'll be surprised how heavy the wheel/tire set. The wheel/tire set are so heavy, it takes a while to stop when going 80mph. High speed turns feel like the wheels want to go somewhere else as you turn the steering wheel, which you have no choice but to guide the steering wheel with your brakes or you feel that weird "about to roll over" feeling. BTW, my tops mpg was 30mph, on a Sunday drive from NorCal to LA on I-5 when the road was full of cars driving south and maximum speed was 45-55mph for several hours.

I'm not saying people can't push their cars to reach better fuel economy based on driving habits, but 30mpg from a GX 460, which is only rated for 20mpg on the highway, is incredibly unlikely. You'd need to spend a significant amount of time coasting downhill, which speaks less to the capability of the GX 460 and more to simple physics.

Recent trip to the beach - packed to the gills - 2 passengers - averaging 75 . I was tickled pink! Calculated by hand as well - that came out 25.2. Averaged 21.6 coming home to WV but that is gaining elevation from the coast.

Impressive! Nice to see we can get into the 20s on the highway. Those bursts of speed, particularly into the 90s, really wreck economy but it is nice to get where you're going.
Almost all of my driving is around town, and I typically get ~16.5mpg or so, at least according to the computer. Not bad but I wish this truck had a bigger tank so I could stop for fuel less. The new F150s with the 36 gallon tank and the 2.7L ecoboosts can go something like 800-900 miles... but I have no use for a pickup bed![Big Grin](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
30 MPG sounds believable with perfect conditions, especially if you round up from 29, but obviously not realistic. The nationwide 55 limit was set for a reason. This six speed transmission is geared for efficiency, and with aired up tires, constant speed, moving traffic surrounding, an optimistic trip computer, it should be very achievable. Though it's not something I'd be interested in recreating.

Just wanted to share my experience over the past year. I have a 2010 premium with stock wheels and tires. I do about 80-85% city driving here in southern California and average about 13.5 - 14.0 mpg. I'm not super aggressive in the way I drive and yet can't get to 15 mpg/city. Unless I'm extremely conservative - to the point drivers behind me might think I'm driving a golf cart - I might get 15 mpg out of a tank in the city.
On the few highway road trips I've done, I have achieved about 23-24 mpg. This is with 4 passengers and a decent load.

29.58mpg after refueling is what I saw on the screen to be exact. The slow traffic started right below Stockton, CA and I saw the screen right before refueling just before LA. Next time it happens I will take some photos. I normally drive between 75-85mph on highways and I was still averaging ~24mpg. Try driving between 45-55mph for three hours right after refueling and I am confident you achieve real close to the ~30mpg mark on your GX. The load of the truck was two adults, three teenage kids, and approximately 150 pounds worth of travel stuff in the back. I recommend replacing the factory wheels for forged 20" for better enjoyment - but due to mpg drop and weight, I would stay away from wheels bigger than 20".
I'm guessing you mean 30mpg and quite honestly...that's not something I can believe. If you're using onboard computers to calculate that generally isn't a valid way to get your actual miles per gallon. You need to do it by hand using your miles traveled and the amount of fuel you burned (based on how much you need to put into the car at fill-up). Onboard computers are not considered reliable for such info.

And bd5400, the key here is driving at very low highway speed (minimal aerodynamic drag) constantly for hours without stops, and having immediately started after refueling.
If you tend to sit in your car for awhile before pulling away, long drive-thru waits at mcdonalds, etc., it will wreck your hypermile attempt

I am not a hypermiler but a number of years ago when I had a very long commute I could stretch my G35's range to well over 500 miles

How much pressure do you run in your tires? And was that 29.58 on aftermarket wheels? If so, is your tire diameter larger or smaller than stock?

. Same thing if you take four or five highway trips instead of one constant journey (have to make several cold starts, accelerate to speed several times, wait at lights, park, reverse and so on). Burning off just one or two extra gallons can bring you from a 29.5 to a 27 or 25 even though you still might consider it 100% highway driving.

Well I couldn't help myself and probably did 85-95 the whole time, got about 17.5 MPG ![Big Grin](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Only had to stop once each way to fill up though, so no difference there.
The GX is really a great vehicle on the highway.

All Purpose around 18.5 to 19.5. Recently returned from Florida to Delaware, mostly interstate, driving between 75 to 80. Got 25.1. Nice weather, no strong headwinds, etc. Local area on open highways around 22 mpg. Live in the country, so do not do much "city driving".

I notice that 2017's MPG changed to 15/18 from 2016's 15/20.
We were shopping for a new car earlier this year and narrowed it down between RX350 and GX460. I know, they are very different class of vehicles. We were persuaded by RX's impressive MPGs claim 20/28 and bought it instead of GX. Both my wife and I have long commutes and when gas goes up to over $4 a gallon, MPGs do make a difference.
Fast forward 9 months and RX's MPG is disappointing. With 9K miles on the odometer, took a trip from LA to San Diego. We averaged 23 MPG (all highway driving with some traffic).
So, my question to the current owners of GX460s, what is your real world MPG?
Thanks in advance.

I have owned my 2011 for about three years and put over 50,000 miles on it. I was averaging 15.2 and have recently been at 15.5
My daily driving is erratic, but mostly stop and go with red lights and slow zones (maybe 20% highway).
Why did mpg change with the 2017, maybe Lexus realized they made a mistake with their calculation?

The EPA has changed the way they measure fuel economy for 2017. A 2017 gets the same fuel economy as a 2016 in the real world. Most car models have seen the fuel economy drop for 2017 on the window sticker.
