I get 15-16 in town. I can get over 20 on the highway but typically more like 18 if I'm driving quickly. What's more irritating to me though is that we only get a 23 gallon tank, whereas the Prado gets a 150L (40 gallon) tank in other markets, so we have to fill up twice as often.

Big advantage of the RX fuel wise is that the factory recommends regular instead of premium. Around here, that's anywhere from 50 cents to a dollar a gallon savings unless you can find a costco. That said, you can probably put regular in the GX460 given it's the identical engine out of the Toyotas that take regular too.

Really though if fuel costs "makes a difference" in your lifestyle, then you should probably be driving a sedan like a Camry or Accord instead of a tall crossover. Getting 20+ mpg in anything resembling an SUV is pretty good.

2013 GX 460 with 24000 miles Just did a 200 mile no stop trip on almost flat highway. Average 18.4 mpg according to the trip computer with speed between 65 and 80. I noticed speed makes a big difference. When traveling above 80, mpg drops to below 18. At 65, it's above 20.

This.

If you have the patience to drive a steady 70mph, you'll get over 20 very easily. However these GXs cruise so well on the interstate it's difficult not to run up to 80-90 and the economy suffers a bit.

With about 18000 miles on our '15 the lifetime average is 16.6 mpg using E10 89. If I drive it I get BETTER mpg than my wife and I don't do grandpa driving style. couple months ago I drive it for 1 week long and the average for that tank is 18.7 mpg. This is about 70/30 City/freeway driving. I have NO problem getting 20+ mpg on highway (just keep the speed at around 65 or less.

My previous RX350 AWD I never got 24 mpg on highway as they advertised.

My girlfriend's 2015 GX470 has avg over 35k miles 17.5, the truck idles a lot, a lot of town driving and dirt roads. Driving from Albuquerque to Pagosa Springs going up and down hills, I avg 21 mpg.

I've got a 2010 and easily get over 20 on trips, measured accurately. I also don't have a heavy foot, although I probably average 68-72 mph in light traffic.

Strange on the change...

In 4 months and over 13,000 miles on a 2016 GX460 I average around 19mpg. I do mostly highway cruising. So it's only 19mpg by combining some of the city stop and go. Echoing most here with over 20mpg on the highway with not much effort. If you pay crazy attention in feathering the throttle and keeping speeds closer to 55mph, you can easily get over 25mpg. While that was fun for a bit as I was experimenting, I don't worry about the MPG anymore. It's all about comfort and all of the capabilities of the GX.

Default Gas mileage discrepancy

I may just be getting senile but an internet search says the 2016 gx gets 20mpg highway but the 2017 is rated for only 18. Am I nuts? Have my Google skills diminished? Edit: Lexus website says 20 but most online resources including Edmunds report it is 18. Nearly had a panic attack for passing on the leftover 16....

EPA tighten the rules of reported milage for 2017 model year. Some manufactures actually tuned their cars to meet the last year model MPG. Lexus haven't done that for GX and as such MPG for 2017 model year went down. See article below https://www.epa.gov/fuel-economy/bas...onomy-labeling

However, I have to mention, that on my 2017 GX, I was able to get 19.8 MPG on my recent 250 highway miles trip up to the mountain (raising from 50 to 7,800 feet elevation). So I would say, that 2017 GX can easily reach 20 MPG on the flat highway.

Thanks for the response but now I'm confused. The Lexus website says 20 even though the auto press says 18. Are you saying it really is 18 even though 20 may be achievable?

On Lexus website http://www.lexus.com/models/GX/specifications, under specs for Fuel Economy there is an asterisk next 20 MPG. Clicking on that asterisk reveal the following message "Preliminary mileage estimates determined by Lexus. EPA mileage estimates not available at time of posting. Actual mileage will vary."

So what it means is that Lexus says that highway milage is 20, EPA says, it's 18. In my personal testing, I was able to achieve almost what Lexus stated.

It all depends on how you drive. If you hyper-mile a little, you get even better results on the highway.
