Enroute to yellowstone from Austin...at 21.4 mpg and driving with a light foot. Not crossed 80 yet. I like diesels though..too much effort climbing hills with petrol. The 3.0 litre diesel in the hilux is better than the v8 except for the noise ....lol

It's really all down to speed. Keep it under 80 for best results. Under 60 would be even better if you could stomach going that slow.

Just the increase in wind noise from 70-75 to 85-90 is pretty dramatic. It's still a Lexus so not that loud to begin with, but coming down to 70mph is substantially quieter than in the 80s and 90s.

But the best cost savings for fuel in my experience would be running regular. I get no better mileage on premium, and usually save at least 15% on regular, sometimes 20%++, which would be at least 3+ MPG's worth of savings.

Like others said, air up the tires. Any lift, roof rack, other body accessories will really wreck your mileage. You could look for ethanol-free fuel which should yield about 10% better mileage, but it's going to cost more, and you'll have to go out of your way to find it. Clean air filter, oil change would also have a negligible impact. In my personal experience, whether my GX is empty or loaded with cargo makes no meaningful impact on highway mileage.

Default Buy the good stuff

injnow it sounds contradictory, but go for super premium fuel. Felt difference the moment I put it in the tank. Lasts longer, better performance. Give it a shot.

On the highway 60-70 mph I regularly get 21-22 mpg; around town, not so much. It drops to 16 or so. I run 91 or 93 octane, 0W-20 oil and touring tires. I do keep my foot out of it most of the times; I think that helps.

On my last trip, I got 11mpg climbing up hill from 3000 feet to almost 9500 feet. Then on the down hill section it was even out to 20+ mpg. So from now on I will only go down hill LOL haha!

You can put a little more air into the tires, don't use S shifting much, keep speed around 65-70mph with a lot coasting on freeway and don't carry a lot of stuffs in the trunk to help reduce the weight.

Coasting. Coasting definitely works. Basically driving like a granny and not enjoying your GX.

Default Poor mileage

My 2015 GX 460 was mostly in a garage until 2 months ago. It just broke 5 k miles. It broke 2k miles 4 months ago. I’m seeing less than 10 mpg in city driving. This is measuring the reading they offer after fill-up. Doing mostly highway, I’m only getting a little over 13. Does anyone know what the problem is ? My father has a 15 year old 460 that regularly gets 14 in the city. Just this morning the dealer just reset the overall gauge for me and told me to see what it does. It was no change afterwards. They said possibly clean the fuel injectors, but doubted that would make a big difference. I talked to 3 other GX owners this am
and they all get much better mileage. I rely on after fill-up which automatically resets itself. I also noticed that the feature that shows mileage as your driving often shoots up to 40 as i’m maintaining consistent speed. But the 9.8 actual MPG is my main concern. Thanks !

Looks like it was bare driven or driving very short distant or alot of idling. I would refill the tank and reset all the counters and drive regularly see if it helps. I average around 15-16mpg around town. But with alot of red lights, idling, and traffic, it can get to 14mpg or even lower.

Thanks BBQ. I’ve driven the car daily for 2 months now - 1500 miles. Don’t know what else I can reset besides the overall mileage counter

Are you using premium or regular? If it requires premium and you use regular, it will lower your MPG. Similarly, if you use bad gasoline from some no name brand with lower quality gasoline it will give you bad MPG as well. I once filled up at Costco with their $2 premium and it was the fastest I have ever burned through a tank of gas.

Not mean to start anything but do you think that this Costco may have had bad gas (LOL).

I live about 1 mile from Costco and use their 91 gas almost exclusively for the GX. Only when I'm on road trips that I use Shell or Chevron. I filled up with Costco 91 then hit the freeway right away and get anywhere from 18-20mpg, then refill with Shell and get similar mileage maybe a tad better due to less up hill etc...

A couple of months ago, I did 3 straight Shell 91 fill-ups to see if it makes a difference with my daily driving and commute and they were the same as if I filled up with Costco.

I also tried 87 for 3 tanks as well and couldn't see any differences either.

I have been using Costco gas (93) and with daily 60+ miles commute (70% highway and 30% local). I have been achieving close to 19 miles per gallon. I have 2014 GX and currently with about 27K miles on the clock.
