How many years has the GX been rated #1 for reliability ? ... and in the top-3 ? Why change a good thing ... exactly the Lexus strategy from a GX refresh standpoint ... a strategy that is obviously working.

Just to open a discussion about this, why is RX is outselling the GX? Isn't the RX also reliable? Don't you think if Lexus really did a new refresh on GX, it would sell much better than what it is selling right now? So I am not sure what is the strategy you are talking about.

They have been saying the same thin on LC 200 (reliable why change it) and sales are incredibly low that Toyota might discontinue selling it in U.S. Have you seen other car manufacturers with similar price range? They are selling much better than LC and Lexus 570 combined.

Apples vs. Oranges ... Truck (frame-on-body) vs. Cute-Ute ... not even in same category. The GX is a “one-off” for the US market where the ROW is “the volume market” under the Land Cruiser name. If (high) volume was the US sales goal, the GX would have been discontinued years ago.

We have a 2020 coming in JAN. I have never achieved the EPA rated milage in any vehicle I have owned. We live in the Texas Hill Country and have concluded that is the culprit. I'm hoping for 15-16 but assuming something less is likely. That's just the price for driving a full-time 4WD.

I live in the Hill Country Between Fredericksburg and Kerrville and with my '19 consistently get 18-19 mpg.

Better than EPA? That would be nice but I'll believe it when I see it. I have never had a vehicle (so far) where the fuel mileage calculator was not exaggerated toward the high side.

EPA Test Methods ...

https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/how_tested.shtml

... great for relative comparison, but absolute ? ... very unlikely.

What about % Ethanol ? Elevation ? Ambient Temperature(s) ? Flat vs. Elevation Changes ? Tires / Tire Pressure ? Driver or Driver + Passenger(s) ... the list goes on. Yes, they attempt to compensate for some of these factors ... but.

So the long-short is that EPA estimate(s) are intended for relative comparison ... not as being absolute.

I don't rely on the fuel mileage calculator, I keep track of every fill up on fuelly.com. In the last ten fill-ups I averaged 17.9 with the best being 18.7

If you are getting 17.9 on average, that's really good. Which software are you using to track mpg?

I have 52000 on my 2015. For the first 30k miles I averaged 17.5 mpg with 2 long trips, mostly highway (roughly 4000 miles). Since I replaced the OEM tires with 265.65.18 when it had 30650 miles, I average 16.5 mpg for the last 21k miles, factor in 3% bigger circumference it is about roughly 17 mpg. This new tires are slightly heavier than OEM so the drop in mpg is expected.

I believe I got the advertised number but it still sucks. On the other hand, my 2017 RX350 can easily get 22 mpg with regular gas.

Just got back from a 550 mile round trip to Vegas in my 2019 GX. On way home, I averaged 19.8 mpg cruising on highway at 70-80 mph with a few stretches of 85+. Not bad at all. Around town I often get as low as 15mpg with lots of stop and go.

Get exactly the same numbers on a 2019 Premium.

Yup got about the same mileage on my trip to Eastern Montana down thru Yellowstone, Idaho and back to WA last summer. Don't know why so many others have such crappy gas mileage .
