Agreed. I wish they would do a 10-speed with the same V8. Haha.

Switched vehicles from a 2015 LX570 (eventually) to the 2022 GX460. I sold the LX because I needed to lose a vehicle (held on to the Sprinter van conversion, sold the LX) and hated the fuel economy and range of the LX. The poor(er) gas milage of the LX (15mpg on a good day highway driving) and atrociously small gas tank made the frequent trips to the gas station so miserable! This kind of milage that I now routinely get with the GX460 (20+mpg) with 300+ mile range on an equally capable V8 Land Cruiser is such a nice thing! Very happy to now have the GX in the stable and missing the LX570 a little less.

On my 2015 GX, I have overall 19.4 mpg (all driving conditions). On 500 miles flat highway trips, we do 22 to 24 mpg easily with luggage and 2 to 4 people.
I do feel like mpg number is getting better after a couple of drain and fill of transmission fluid. I do shell 87 only. I maintain 38 psi year around. Love LTX defender tires on the truck. A few weeks back I saw the cruising range jumped to 415 miles post fill-up. We are generally light on gas pedal I guess. No modification and never tow.
So I don't have any needs to get a twin turbo v6 from Toyota or Lexus. GX is totally fine as I don't have a lot of local traffic around me. The next move could be getting an EV if I can afford it.

Hey guys, just bought a month ago a Lexus GX 460 2013 model.
it had an average of 8.4 MPG when I got it, it's now at 10 MPG.
95% of the time in driving in the city for short 10 minutes drive.
Is this normal for the car because of the constant short trips or should I take it to a shop to check some stuff out?
P.S. I did not buy it for fuel efficiency and I only have to gas up every 2 weeks but still want to know if there is an issue here I'm missing....

10-minutes run time, and your engine is just barely getting to operating temperature. It take 2-3 times longer for the oil to reach operating temperature than the coolant.
So you are dealing with several issues. First, the engine ... being cold ... is being fed an over-rich fuel mixture during the warm-up period ... hence the lower MPG. And the oil ... not warming up to operating temperature ... does not have the opportunity to burn off fuel dilution and condensation created during the warm-up period. So not only do you experience lower MPG ... your oil is compromised over time in protecting the engine.
Your described use is not healthy for your engine. At least you should change the engine oil every 5,000 miles (or 12-months) if you care about engine longevity.

Tnx for this, it's exactly what I thought.
I used to own a Land Cruiser Prado with a 2.7-liter engine so it did not matter that much.
With the Lexus, I'm trying to monitor its fuel use to get to know the car.
When I got it I asked about maintenance, the norm here is every 5k Miles or every 6 months.
I live in Panama City, Panama.
90% of all Lexuses in the country are here in the city center and everything is a 5-10 minute drive. Most of them get the service every 6 months since they never reach the 5k mile target.
I'll ask a couple of friends who also own the car what their average is.

I am not one to push for an EV ... but your use is ideal. Any combustion vehicle will have the same challenges as your GX.

I had my Land Cruiser Prado for 13 years but had to sell it because I left Panama because of COVID. Could have easily driven it 25 more years.
Once I got back I wanted a Prado again but the prices are crazy, 34k for a 9-year-old car with 150K miles on it, got a Lexus GX Luxury edition for 22K with 55K miles on it.
I could get an EV BMW, Audio, or Mercedez EV but I'm a fan of Japanese reliability. never seen myself owning one of those...

You will get poor economy with such short city trips (I haven't driven in Panama City in 30 years but I doubt that the traffic has gotten better) but that average still seems low.
The average since refuel just prior to refueling will show a more accurate of what you are truly getting.

I want an EV, just that I can't drive a small apple toy on wheels here, in this city where everybody drives aggressively crazy I feel more protected with a bug and rugged truck.
