Default gx 460 compared to gx 460 premium. suspension issue

so far, the only difference ive seen between the two is the inclusion of the air suspension, adaptive variable suspension involving rear axle and the HIDs and molding for the premium.

have any of you thought about the air suspension prematurely failing. they dont last long as the coils from what i hear, and give potential problems in when very cold (back will sink)...any thoughts.

i thought about getting the premium, but this air suspension has me worried. it wont be as easy to swap out in future as regular coils (not to mention there arent as many premium gx460's out there)

any thoughts?

I had the air suspension on my previous GX and never had a single problem.

I'm expecting the same reliability from this one.

The HID's and molding can be added to the GX 460 base if that's your preference.

i'm torn between how well the premium versus the base handles. Not sure if anyone can chime in here. I plan on test driving both before making the plunge. If i get the base, molding will be added for sure as well as hid's

I've tried out the air suspension when test driving at the dealer, and the variable suspension did make a difference when switching between the settings. As for the height adjustment, I didn't see a very big difference between the three selections. In the end I bought the US-spec base model (it's called Premium here), because I don't need to adjust the suspension settings. The firmness of the coil springs is more like the "Normal" setting on the air suspension, so it's right between sport (firm) and comfort (soft).

Because the height only low and raise the rear for about one inch, mostly for people connecting a trailer

Also, the chrome trim on the rear windows goes up farther on the premium than the base.. . . I have a base with added trim and I thought you couldn't tell but someone here pointed out that difference. Just pointing that out.

i went out to the dealer today and looked at the premium and base. The premium believe it or not sits LOWER than the base in the rear. I guess it must of been lowered or thats its neutral height? The lexus website does say the premium sits lower by about 1 inch.

Also i didnt notice the chrome trim but will look at it next time.
Most likely willl be getting the base with all options.

A quick way to tell if it is a Premium or not.

When you open the door, the door sill will be lighted with the word, LEXUS.

If you tow and/or carry extra weight, it is a must. I have it on my 4Runner and it has worked perfectly for 6 years. There is a 4" difference between the low and high settings. The normal setting automatically levels the vehicle regardless of weight put in the vehicle or on the hitch. Lower the vehicle to load or wash and raise the vehicle for offroading or going through water. It also makes a big difference in ride quality.
