If you are coming to Durango from Grand Junction you will be travelling on the million dollar Highway from Ouray to Silverton. It's very scenic and very twisty. I would advise to travel this stretch in the day time whether it's snowy or not. Just take it easy and don't be in a hurry. If you are coming to Durango from the south, Pagosa Springs, it should be a piece of cake. Colorado does a good job using snow plows to keep the main highways clear.

What drive modes do you use for snow? I have a new (to me) 2016 luxury. No MTS, no crawl control. Just leave it in 4Hi? NJ weather. Anticipating snow in the coming weeks.

All you need are good tires…dedicated snow tires or good all season/all terrain with 3 peak in my opinion. These trucks are amazing in the snow as long as you know how to drive. You don’t need crawl control. Don’t overthink the drive modes.

For slow traffic, stop and go, especially on hills where the surface is slick, use your ETC2 which starts you in 2' nd gear. Once you get going you can turn the ETC2 off. ETC2 (electronic transmission control 2'nd gear.) When you use it you should see it light up on the instrument panel. When you turn it off the light goes away.

[QUOTE=TwoSpeed;11189261]The roads around Durango can be handled with all season tires without much issue if you have tread on them. The GX romps in the snow if you put correct tires on. Chains are cheap if you want peace of mind.

currently setup for ski duty

That looks very nice. Very nice tire/wheel choice and fit!

Thanks all for the advice! I think we'll be fine as long as we take it slow and enjoy the scenery. We're only looking to be there until New Years Day, so this isn't an extended adventure. The advice really helps. I've driven in snow before (4runner - 4x4, tahoe area) so I have an idea but it'll be the first time I've taken the GX for extended snow, as we're coming from Houston. I promise we won't be dicks, like our Texas reputation precedes us occasionally.

Just wanted to give an update for other people's future research. I went ahead and bought two sets of chains (front and rear, if needed). We're currently in Durango, and just drove out to and back from Silverton, CO on the 550 pass. It was snowy, unplowed, and light snow coming down. The Michelin Defenders LTX M/S did fantastic as did the GX. Haven't needed the chains yet, and I suspect I won't, I hope. I briefly engaged center diff lock to see if there was much difference and it didn't seem like it. All in all, if I lived here, steelies and snow tires would be on the GX, however for one off trips from Houston to CO, the Defenders seem up to the job.

Great looking rig. What wheel tire combo?

This is my new wallpaper! What are the details on your wheel tire setup? Any spacers?

Can someone recommend good off road snow chains for a 2019 GX460? The manual gives specific links thickness (0.20in side, 0.25in cross), but I can’t find any chains matching those. Currently using 265/60-18 X-ice 2 studless in case that matters.

I have some other ones but am considering these

I believe they were sold through this company. I don't have a direct link.

Hmmm, I have no problem driving the car in snow. I live in Colorado and have a place in Vail. Sick Bridgestones are fine. Never had a problem....although I am an experienced driver....LOL
