Default New to forums. Thinking of getting gx 460. Should I wait till 2012?

Hi there. New to the GX forum. I'm thinking of getting a 2011, but I'm wondering what the difference will be with the 2012. Does anyone have any ideas. Wondering if it will get the LED lighting the new IS got on the front. It's the same ones Mercedes and Audi have.

well there could be differences ... price will be higher on the 2012 .... you could avoid the first production year of a new model by going 2012 .... not sure of changes but doubt they are going to be big

We purchased Serial #518 of the GX 460 in early-February of 2010 ... yes, the 518th GX 460 with a build date of November 2009. Over the past fourteen months we have accumulated over 12,000 miles with a mixture of suburban traffic and highway cruising although little time in city traffic and never off road. We had the stability control software updated last spring and we have it serviced at our Lexus dealership every six months rather than by the odometer.

For all intents and purposes, our vehicle is perfect. We have seen none of the problems reported in this forum and the only deficiencies are "by design" i.e., the side-swing rear door. We have been extensively surveyed by Lexus, J. D. Powers, Consumer Reports, etc. and we have returned every survey thoroughly completed. Lexus has also invited us to be on their Advisory Board for further surveys.

My purpose in this presentation is to assure you that although the 2012 may be different than the 2011, which was essentially identical to the 2010, the Lexus GX 460 has no obvious shortcomings that may be solved in subsequent model years ... short of significant redesign. We will trade "in a New York minute" if they offer a split lift-drop gate on the 2012 or 2013 or 2014, etc., but we are delighted with what we drive now. You will be also.
Regards,

SaniDel

With recent events in Japan, I would expect 2012's to be significantly higher priced or in demand.

Heck, late 2011s are going to be hard to find.

Dealer's around here don't have many on the lots - new or used. They are fetching quite a premium.

Come May or June, you will see a supply shortage on all Lexus Vehicles built in Japan...

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Hopefully, they will fix the production problems soon, but I guess that is dependent on the nuclear power plants.

Anyways, hope pricing on the 2012 will be the same or just slightly higher. I'm still going to see what happens with the 2012 and if they are going to make any body changes. Slight, obviously, but I'll see what happens and if I should purchase now or wait.

We actually got a personal email last week from our local Lexus dealer letting us know that due to the expected product shortages, they are paying premium in trade for any and all GX460's. Due to numerous issues and our general underwhealming experience with the GX460, if Lexus offered anything else that I was interested in, I would give some strong consideration to trading it in.

That's where we are. With only one vehicle, Lexus would need to have a good alternative on a trade-in. Unfortunately, the GX is all they have that meets all our requirements so we are keeping ours.

i would trade mine in to get the lx, but thats only if gas prices drop. I expect the LX would get 10/15 mpg at best...

I wish we could, but the LX won't fit in our garage! It is a townhouse with an integral one-car garage and no option to make it bigger. We owned an LX 470 when we moved here in 2004 and after six months of "holding our breath" while we slid between the truck and the garage walls it was obvious we had to downsize.

We didn't like the GX 470 so we got the RX 400h ... that was a nice car and interesting, but it was a car and not a truck. We jumped for the GX 460 as soon as it was announced and purchased the dealer's demo in early-2010. However, since we traded our LX the LX 570 went "on steroids" ... it is even bigger, a bit overdone and frankly not as good as the Infiniti Q56, which is also overdone:

So, we will be keeping our GX 460, regardless of the incentives Lexus offers to trade as they have nothing else for us.
Regards,

SaniDel

The LX 570 doesn't have xenon HID headlights, so I wouldn't own it. I'd go with the Infiniti QX 56...

I'm keeping my GX 460...

Well, it sounds like production is down at the Toyota plants, plus they aren't providing any incentives. I may just wait till the end of the year to buy a GX and hopefully Toyota will resolve the issues.
