zaccor, see rxgxmdx resent DIY on side molding install. He did a great job and he shows how easy it is to install yourself. With the $ you save you can buy an HID kit for your fogs.

I just ordered the side moulding for my claret mica '11gx too. can't wait to stick 'em on . Question: RXGXMDX: you wiggled the clips off and they were easy to come off...i'm having a hard time with these clips they aren't coming off...you wiggled or you used pliers? and are they stuck on with tape as well?

thanks, and ya the chrome moulds look better with dark coloured body for sure!

Ha, I removed them with pliers. Was being to gentle with the clips. they are made with a thinner, much more plyable plastic compared with the thicker, harder plastic that the moulds are made from. All I need to do is remove the end clips with a cutting tool. Then, wait for a few days of nice weather as opposed to the rainy damp weather we are currently getting.

Way to go, aqua! Glad you figured it out. Don't forget to post a picture. My wife initially wanted a claret mica too. I can show her what she had missed .

I used a carpet cutter to remove the the end clips cuz I didn't have other tools. I just pressed the tip of the blade against the base of the clips and it slowly cut into the soft plastic. Then I did the same from different angles. The surface was not smooth, but hey, you wont see it .

Default Chrome Molding

Can someone tell me what chrome molding this is on this truck;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lexus-GX-4WD-4dr-FACTORY-CERTIFIED-2011-LEXUS-GX-460-4WD-4dr-/281529791741?forcerrptr=true&hash=item418c7bb4fd&item=281529791741&pt=US_Cars_Trucks#ht_9390wt_900
it looks smaller than the standard big color matched side molding but I can not locate it on Swell. Or I did not look hard enough

http://www.carid.com/2011-lexus-gx-c...g-4014807.html

I put it on my truck and it looks pretty good. I still thought the door was naked looking so I bought the painted molding to determine what I wanted to keep.I had both of them on for a couple of weeks and couldn't take it anymore

I took both of them off and got the factory molding (much better).

I bought them from Sewell.

My order history shows that I paid $610. It looks like they went up to $671 (the link doesn't show the CL discount).

The factory molding complements the truck. The expense is obviously high, but I think it is worth it.

I Lost the spare tire and had frustrations with the unuasual request to install dual exhaust on the GX 460. The original installation was done by an amateur and it has been rebuilt twice.

I recently have noticed a rattle when idling. I have pinpointed the location of the exhaust pressed against metal. The Frustrations continue

The blue color you see at the spare tire location is where I keep a waterproof bag with plugs, patches and an air compressor.

Default Side Molding

I'm not sure on '14+ but it appears that '10-'13 Premium models have clip holes in addition to double sided tape to hold side molding on.

The OC part of me noticed some slight gaps in mine where it appears double-sided tape is beginning to fail...but not as concerned if there are still clips holding them on. You can't see anything but up close and looking down.

I saw someone talking about using Gorilla glue in another thread/different vehicle to button things up. I know..the right thing to do would be to remove, replace clips and put new double-sided tape on. Not sure if you can even buy clips separately or even condition of clips. They might be fine.

This old thread has pics of what the moldings look like.

Anyone else with older GX noticing some looseness as well?

I put the side molding on my GX when purchased in 2013. Only used the tape and it is holding up well so far. If the gaps are slight, I would probability hold off on a complete removal.
