My Yakima SkyBox 16 fit just fine on OEM crossbars. Funny thing is the guy at REI was trying to sell me on a Thule cargo box and how easy they are to install. What model Thule do you have?
I have the Thule Pulse M. with the FastGrip quick-mount system. I really like this thing since it is so easy to install and have used it in the GX470 and a previously owned Honda Pilot.
I am looking to purchase a cargo box that can hold 2~4 snowboards that is also compatible with OEM cross bars. I have read many people are having issue with mounting mechanism scratch car roof when under load (ex Yakima SkyBox 16). Anyone has Inno brand cargo box? I really like their white version (my car is white lol). But Thule is also very nice! Any recommendation? Please keep suggestion limited to OEM cross bars. I really prefer the low profile styling. Thanks!
We have a Thule Sidekick (I think) that also mounts to the factory bars. We have had it for quite a few years though so I'm not sure if it still in production.
I think some had problems w/ the Skybox feet contacting the roof w/ the factory crossbars. There is no good Yakima foot/crossbar option for the factory rails unfortunately. I tried RailGrab which use to be recommended but they sucked. I ended up swapping my rails for Prado 150 and using Yakima Lowrider feet.
The Thule motion xt xl fits pretty good on factory bars. The shark fin is behind it and nothing is touching the roof when everything is tight.
I haven’t loaded it yet but I can hear very little wind noise on the way back on highway speeds.
