my 2007 gx470 has had this whine since the day I bought it. I had it looked at when it appeared and was told by my mechanic that it is common and nothing to worry about. He said it is likely a vibration in the differential and they all do it just some more noticeable than others. There is a dampener attached to the bottom of the diff which was supposed to make it less noticeable but is not always effective. I now have 160K on the vehicle and the sound is exactly the same and has not changed. I am totally not even worried about it any more!!!

Thanks for the input. My 460 is fairly low mileage at 52k and has this slight whine on-throttle. It slightly improves with lift throttle but still audible between 55-70mph range. My 470 was dead silent with 166k in the clock. Very odd...

Just bought a 2019 that now has 1,200 miles on the clock ... and yes, I just noticed the whine at highway speed yesterday.

Being such a new truck, I’m sure you’ll have the dealer diagnose the root cause. Please update when/if you get this sorted.

I had not read that this was flagged in forum discussions, so when I heard this ... between 55-65 MPH ... I worked the accelerator pedal and listened to the sound level to assess and concluded that it is not an issue given the sound was very faint, but will continue to listen and report back.

I'm taking my '13 CPO GX w/ 68k into the dealer next week for the "whine"...very annoying on the highway, and noticeable over the radio at moderate volume. I'm guessing there is a TSB on the issue, so I keep the thread updated as to what the dealer says.

2019 with 3k miles ... yes, the faint whine is between 50-60 MPH in the transition zone between accelerating and decelerating where there is no load on the drivetrain ... sounds exactly like a ring-and-pinion gear setup issue.

I have a 2013 with 80,000 miles and have the same issue. When I changed the diff fluids, the noise changed but did not go away, so I am with ASE in thinking this is a ring and pinion or the pinion bearing. I haven't tried taking it to a dealer, interested in what CB84 hears back.

Going to change diff-oil at 5k to see if noise changes. Amazing how some oil brands ... even with the same specs ... change the noise factor (for worn differentials).

And when I shut off the car, the sound continues for about another 10 seconds or so, then just goes off. Any thoughts as to what can be causing this?

Yeah, check 3rd row seats if you have the electric models. If they aren't fully in place either up or down, they will emit a high pitched beep. Had this issue recently and thought I was losing my mind.
