I did an oil & filter change today.. my '12 has a little over 80k miles.
There was nothing wrong with the retrofit cap but decided to put in the one without the end cap.
PN: 15620-31040 / Cap Housing without end cap plug

$30 on PartSouq. I'll order one the next time I get some stuff from them. Same filter element as the metal housing with the end cap, correct?

Go on Amazon and type oil filter wrench and then Filter by year/make/model. You can try searching oil filter wrench 64mm, there's results on eBay for around $5. It's a 64mm cartridge housing style deal, it's like a giant socket.
I highly recommend switching to the metal style housing: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/cor...using.1186689/

... you have to carefully bend the 2 Tangs down at the base of the tube so it can rotate for removal (note the original bend angle) ... and once in the new housing ... bend the 2 Tangs slightly upward so it will not disengage.

Oil Life
Folks, save some money and do Mother Earth a favor...10,000 mile interval oil change is perfectly fine for our GX 460's using the recommended oil.
almost all new cars have 7,500 mile recommended oil change intervals these days even those not using synthetic oil. Your GX has a darn good warranty from Lexus they don't want engine headaches any more then you do.
Engines are much better engineered these days I understand the intention but 5,000 mile oil changes (for most GX owners) is way overkill and simply not needed on the GX 460 unless you tow near limit loads often.

Honestly I just remove the bolts and skid plate, its a good opportunity to inspect engine and other components.
Plastic trim is 5 bolts and skid is 4 bolts so not that big deal, at least not for me.
